    - How can you tell which ('version')/ date your laptop was made/shipped from the factory.

I need this info to compare it to another one of the same kind that was purchased this week.. I want to know if HP has released a 'second generation' of some kind.. or just improved something significantly.

    Thanks.

Well, you can go by the original BIOS date that the unit came installed with. You can look in system information under start menu/accessorries. That gives you a rough idea.

And then there's the serial number and part number. You can find out about a computer by its serial number/part number on HP's website. I forget where you plug that into info in. You'll have to hunt around.

Doesn't it print the Date of Manufacturing on the bottom?

BIOS only show the date of BIOS compilation doesn't show manufacturing date but a new BIOS could indicate a revision.

No, just the serial number, part number, and model number. Along with OS sticker.

Oh ok Acer laptop do it though.
My laptop has a MFG DATE:0809 It should be read as 2008 Sep because I got it before 2009
I once saw a HP Elitebook the MFG Date should be on the Box.
