Hi,
I'm new here and hope this is the right place to ask this. I was hoping if someone can give me an answer to my problem. I recently got a new HP Pavilion Slimline computer and I just got back the HP DVDPlay program because my old computer, which was Compaq, broke down and had to be replaced ASAP. However, my new computer won't let me play any of my Region 1 DVDs on DVDPlay because the computer is locked in region 0 mode. Every time I put in a R1 DVD to play with DVDPlay, it ejects the disk and asks if I want to change regions. I have not used any of my 5 out of 5 limitations yet to switch to Region 1, and it says that DVDPlay is incompatable with my computer.
I also cannot find QuickPlay on my computer, as I think it's gone, was deleted and/or was never put back on. If I bring back QuickPlay, will it let me play Region 1 DVDs on DVDPlay again? What should I do? I hope there's a free way to fix this, as I can't afford to spend any further updates on how to fix my computer to play R1 DVDs again.
Any help is VERY much appreciated. Thank you for your time.

First, sorry to hear that youre having issues with your new HP Slim Line but the lack of responses to your question is probably related to the fact that this is a notebook forum. So, dont be surprised if a moderator bumps this question elsewhere or deletes your thread completely.
That said:
1. Id check the region setting of the drive and change it to region 4 through device manager provided you live in North America.
2. Not sure, but if your Slim Line is new, it may not have QuickPlay. QuickPlay has been replaced with the Media Smart applications for most new models... I think.
3. If you re running windows, try playing a DVD using media player. If it wont play you probably dont have a DVD codec loaded. It use to be that the DVD codec (cyberlink) was included in the Cyberlink DVD suite or something similar. I think its now in the Media Smart DVD package. You may find something that will work here.
4. You could also try one of the free players that usually include the DVD codec.
Anyway . Best of luck -

Change your region to the correct one.
Forget the software if it does not work and using something different/better.
Get codecs here: CCCP - Combined Community Codec Pack
Use the included media player classic (now called home theater classic or something like that)
Also try out VLC Player - VLC media player - Open Source Multimedia Framework and Player
Between those two players and that codec package there is nothing you cant play. VLC is neat that it can play .ISO and .IMG files directly without even needing to mount them to a virtual disk drive if your one to backup your stuff like I am. -
Though the advice offered so far is excellent, indeed this question would be better served on the sister site to this one, Desktop Review.
Specifically in this section of that forum: http://forum.desktopreview.com/hp/ or this one; http://forum.desktopreview.com/storage/
Register there and you should find the help to be more tailored towards your needs.
Best wishes.
That said, I'm going to close this thread.
