Hey everyone, first I must say that HP is the worst and I will never purchase anything from them ever again. I was warned about them, but I had faith and the deal I got on the laptop was too hard to resist at the time.

Anyway, the 1920x1080 HD screen on my HP Pavilion dv6t-Quad Edition crapped out on me in early December 2013. I have the extended warranty so I elected to go through their warranty service of shipping out my laptop to their service center to have the screen replaced for free. They received the laptop on 12/10/2013 with an expected delivery date back to me of 12/20/13. 10 days, not bad, except that obviously never happened and they never even contacted me to tell me that there was a parts shortage. I had to contact them several days after my expected delivery date to learn that there was a shortage. And, I STILL don't have the laptop.

So, they offered me a brand new laptop as a replacement. Cool. Well, not really. When I was offered the replacement he didn't even mention anything about retrieving any of the files off of my laptop that they have. Nothing. So I said something about having important files on that laptop, was put on hold for 5 minutes, and then he came back with that they will send me the hard drive from my laptop that's at their service center. Is that the best they can do? W*T*F!

With all this non-sense said, I need help in making sure I don't get shafted with crappier laptop than the one that I had and maybe even getting a better one out of this for dealing with such horrific customer service.

Here are the specs of what I had:

    dv6t Quad Ed
    • steel gray
    • 2nd generation Intel(R) Quad Core(TM) i7-2720QM (2.2 GHz, 6MB L3 Cache) w/Turbo Boost up to 3.3 GHz
    • 2GB AMD Radeon(TM) HD 7690M GDDR5 Discrete Graphics(TM) [HDMI, VGA]
    • 8GB DDR3 System Memory (2 Dimm)
    • 160GB (Solid State Drive Flash Module)
    • No additional security software
    • 6 Cell Lithium Ion Battery
    • 15.6" Full HD HP Anti-glare LED (1920 x 1080)
    • Blu-ray player & SuperMulti DVD burner
    • HP TrueVision HD Webcam with Integrated Digital Microphone and HP SimplePass Fingerprint Reader
    • Intel 802.11b/g/n WLAN and Bluetooth(R)
    • Standard Keyboard with numeric keypad
    Windows 7 64-bit professional

Here is what they want to replace my laptop with:

HP Pavilion 15t-n200 TouchSmart Notebook PC (ENERGY STAR)
    mineral black
    Windows 8.1 64
    4th generation Intel® Core™ i5-4200U Processor + 2GB AMD Radeon™ HD 8670M Discrete
    15.6-inch diagonal HD BrightView LED-backlit Display (1366x768)
    8GB DDR3 System Memory (1 Dimm)
1TB 5400 rpm Hybrid Hard Drive
    No Additional Office Software
    Security Software Trial
    4 Cell Lithium Ion Battery
Blu-ray player & SuperMulti DVD burner
    Standard Keyboard (black)
    Webcam and Microphone (Mineral Black)
    802.11b/g/n WLAN and Bluetooth® [2x2
HP 2 year Accidental Damage Protect w/3 day Onsite Resp 1 y warranty HP/Compaq/Pavilion Notebook

The first things that stand out to me are the processor, the hard drive and the screen. I'm assuming the graphics card is better, but the screen doesn't have the same resolution and I'm not sure how the processors compare. And, I really, really like that solid state hard drive for it's speed. I have an external hard drive for massive storage so I'm not sure about the 5400rpm hybrid hard drive.

I don't keep up on computer specifications and hardware so any help would be greatly appreciated. If you have any recommendations about anything regarding this situation, please chime in.

    Thanks,
    gills

If you have a another laptop or Desktop just wait until they fix it, waiting is never fun however it will cost you nothing then you have your original one you bought back, its your call.

Unfortunately in this case there nothing us here can do for you it's up to their warranty department and how they fix or how long it takes them to fix it you have find another computer for the time being to use until you get yours back. But you can also call the warranty department but don't digress them but act polite and rational in your concerns to them and that does a world of wonders to get your fix ASAP sooner then you think even if you think it won't help.
