    Hi,

Can someone please help me with my situation.

I bought a new Gateway T 6859U laptop and the hard drive crashed.

I have an old HP DV4000US laptop that has issues and does not stay on for long.

Is it possible to remove the hard drive from the HP notebook and put it in the Gateway notebook?

    Please help.

    Thanks in advance!

Probably not. If you've already removed the drive from the HP, google the HD model number and find out if it's ATA 6 (PATA). Your new Gateway came with a SATA drive. PATA & SATA use different interface (connector) systems and therefore "if" your old drive from the HP is PATA it will not work in your SATA Gateway. Also, if you have both drives out you can do a side-by-side comparison of the interface.

Hope that helps.... & Gateway is sending you a new drive!

    Hi,

Thanks for your response. Yes, the HP drive is a PATA :(

And unfortunately, Gateway will not cover the replacement.

What is my best/cheapest option to replace the drive myself?

I'm with WD as well. Never had trouble with Fujitsu drives either, but i only had one a few years ago so i can't really comment on it.

Also, get a 7200rpm drive if you can, the laptop will be much faster.
