If your system included Vista express upgrade DVD, then you can use that to install Vista. Search the forum - there is a thread which details the steps to install Vista using the express upgrade DVD. If your system did not ship with this DVD then you can either borrow a full Vista DVD and install using the activation key stuck to the bottom of the laptop.

If you want to restore the system back to factory state then you need to contact HP and order the restore DVD's.

Quickplay for Vista(version 3.0) is slightly different from Quickplay(version 2) for XP. You can Vista Quickplay for Vista and install it in XP but you will have to modify the setup files a bit. Again search the forum for a thread detailing the steps required to do this. Otherwise you will have to download Quickplay version 2 from the web and install.

If you didn't delete the install partition you can hit f11 and it will reinstall, I hope. How come you didn't make recovery DVD?

If you formatted the drive, it is likely that the recovery partition is gone. I would call HP and ask them if they can send you the oem recovery disc.

As was stated above, you hit either F11 or F10 at the first boot screen (whichever is for recovery on your unit).

    Hmmm. F11 should have worked.

    Taken from HP Support:
Sounds like the Recovery Manager is botched. You can either get HP to send you the recovery discs, or use the Windows Anytime Upgrade DVD to reinstall Vista. Keep in mind that you will lose all of the preinstalled software by using anything other than the HP Recovery Discs at this point.

yeah you screwed up the partition system it seems

it happens when u play with the partition table or booting options as was probably done here.

i run XP but when i installed vista on a separate partition this messed up my ability to use the recovery partition.

not a very good move not creating recovery disks, you have also lost your SWS folder which has all the drivers and software for vista too.

your options are clear in the other posts, dont see how anyone can help u do anything else here

If you have wiped the entire drive, you cannot use the recovery partition. The only way to revert to factory defaults is to obtain a recovery DVD from HP.

You can go back to Vista, though, by using the Windows Anytime Upgrade DVD. It comes in a green/blue DVD case and has a big Windows logo on the front that says "Upgrade your Windows Vista Experience". You can pop that in, boot from it by pressing Esc and choosing your DVD drive, and then following the instructions on screen.

Either way, QuickPlay is not available on HPs site. Check my signature for a link to a guide where you can download the necessary installers.

Since you changed the OS to Windows XP you probably wiped out the f11 option. Yes i agree that you need to order the recovery discs from HP... $15 including delivery. I ordered one for mines for backup. Funny how it only came in a 2 disc set while the recovery DVD took 3 discs. Making a recovery discs (DVD) took almost 2 hours and recovering took almost 3 hours...yikes! It's a pain but that what you get in messing around, lesson learned I guess. Also I wonder if you can access the recovery partition and activate it from there. Good luck

Because the OS is probably 2 DVD's and 1 DVD for all the bloatware.
