Hey guys maybe you can help me decide between these two notebooks, and maybe even the HP counterparts.
I bought a x6000 and ended up sending it back to Compaq. it plays games well, but battery life is horrible and it gets so damn hot. plus it is a little too big.
First off, I want good battery life... that would probably point me in the V4000 direction, but I also want to play games... nothing too incredibly stressing... probably Call of Duty is the most video demanding game I will be playing, and I don't know if the V4000 can handle that. Well I don't even know if the R3000z can handle that..
I also want something that won't burn my legs off.
I tend to be leaning more towards the V4000 especially after I saw bench marks of the 3D performance... nothing spectacular mind you, but it is capable.. barely.
Anybody have a Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 900? (I dont trust benchmarks.) Can you tell me if it is playable in the slightly older 3D games? I have no illusions that I will be able to play any new games (FarCry ect.)
Also, the AMD 64 seems appealing, but I don't think the battery life and heat is what I am looking for. I would like the battery to last at least 4 hours of normal use. (web browsing, spreadsheets ect.)
I know this is a bit long but I hope you guys can help me decide. Configured the way I want they both cost about the same, so price isnt an issue.
Oh one last thing. Besides looks, what are the pros and cons between the HP and Compaq models of the same notebooks?
Thanks

HP vs. Compaq: largely cosmetic. Buy whichever configuration looks better and/or is cheaper.
You'll get 3-4 hours of battery life from a R3000z with a 12 cell battery. AMD's power management is very good. If you're gaming it'll get hot, but not as much as a P4, and you can undervolt with ClockGen to keep temps in check (full speed at 1.3V, vs. 1.5V stock, does wonders) if you so choose. The GeForce 440 Go, while weak, should still outperform Intel's shared memory graphics by a fair amount. I was able to play DVD video on battery for 3 hours on my zv5000z.
The launch of the zv6000/R4000 series is imminent. That should have a better GPU. You can get some very good deals on the R3000z now though. -
