I have been searching for part number: B140XTT01.0
It is a touch screen, so I believe this is an assembled package of LCD + digitizer (if I am wrong, please correct me).

My google searches have turned up two, maybe three legitimate US sources that are priced reasonably, but they are out of stock. There are plenty of sources wanting $300+, which is about the price paid for the notebook (i.e., I don't want to pay that much).
Other sources I have found all appear to be based in China.

Can anybody offer guidance on where I might find the part I need? Preferably in the US, but if not, another country will do as long as I do not have to pay an exorbitantly high price.

Good deals if these include the digitizer. Thank you.

I just tried to call this place. I got a "your call cannot be completed as dialed". This doesn't surprise me. The number is: 123-456-7899 (seriously).

It appears that, in order to get the complete assembly of LCD + Digitizer, I will have to order from a Chinese supplier. The ebay link above is for the LCD only.

I called a company that sells the LCD screen only, and it was explained to me that the complete assemblies are not freely available to US re-sellers because there is an exclusive agreement in place between the manufacturers of them and the US computer manufacturers who ultimately sell them to the consumer. It could literally take months before this changes and US component re-sellers have them on-hand.

So, this leads to me another question: Is there a substitute out there that may work, and is it also available here in the US?

Just looking at the service manual here, I don’t see any part numbers listed for the LCD display with or without a digitizer. As far as I can tell they only show HP part# 721218-001 for the touch display (page 78). There is one on eBay here. Pretty pricey.

I believe HP part # 698523-001 is for the non-touch units... which is why those are much cheaper. At-any-rate, perhaps KLF or someone with touch experience will pipe in with some additional thoughts. Hope that helps.

I'm thinking surely the digitizer has to be a replaceable, based on numerous vendors who are selling the LCD without it. While it would be interesting to replace a digitizer (for the sake of learning a little), I would really prefer to buy a complete assembly. This laptop isn't mine; it is for a friend, and I would hate to botch up the job at his expense.

Here is a vendor who claims to have the LCD + Digitizer complete: www.aroseks.com

I have been communicating with them via email, but is there any way to check the legitimacy of this web site to make sure it isn't a scam?

Please check post #8 for edits. The units with and without touch have different HP part numbers for their displays. You want HP part# 721218-001.

As I said before, I have zero experience with Touch enabled notebooks. That said, your dilemma with the “digitizer” has peaked my interest. Looking at the service manual a little closer you find that only the non-touch “display assembly is spared at the subcomponent level” (P24). Therefore it seems to me that:

    - Part # 698523-001 is a subcomponent LCD replacement for a non-touch unit (p24 & p29). This is no different than any other non-touch display replacement and obviously does not include a “digitizer”.

    - Part # 721218-001 however is a complete touch display replacement assembly (p25 & p78). Perhaps it’s possible to change a “digitizer”, but from the parts indicated in the service manual a LCD touch screen repair requires a complete replacement display assembly. There are no subcomponents listed for the touch LCD. Whether this complete assembly includes Wifi antenna, Web Cam, microphones etc., I don’t know.

Last, when you/we are using part number B140XTT0 1.0 to find a replacement, you primarily find parts listed as a “ subcomponent” non-touch LCD replacement (no digitizer) but when using the touch specific part number (721218-001) you find a complete touch LCD assembly. Interestingly, the one complete assembly listed on ebay also uses B140XTT01.0 as “ part” of the identifier. Go figure…

    Hope that helps, Dave

    Dave,

Great detective work. Thank you very much for this.

That 721218--001 is correct. It is the same part number provided to me in a phone conversation with a representative from www.laptopscreens.com
They list the part I need as a replacement for B140XTT01.0, but there are none in-stock. I wanted to get an ETA for this, so I called them and was told it could take months due to the agreement that PC manufacturers have with the LCD/Digitizer manufacturer. But at the end of that conversation, he told me I might get lucky and find one on Ebay if I use the part number that you provided (721718--001).

www.aroseks.com will sell B140XTT01.0 to me for $70, shipped it for $53, accepting only Western Union or T/T as payment, which will likely cost another $10, making the total about ~$140. This is acceptable to me, but I am still not 100% certain this is a trustworthy source. They have the web page as a store front, but they also list individual products at a global trading site called www.alibaba.com. I took a risk several months ago by trading with a Chinese seller here, and it went well. In my email correspondence with them, they claim this include the complete package of LCD + Digitizer.

Cool beans…. now we’re playing off the same sheet of music.

    Options:

First, I’d be very careful with the Chinese direct sellers, though the Arose guys you referenced look legit to me. Alibaba is just a broker; you find them listed for everything from toys to electronics. Arose has a link for Alibaba on their site.

Second, there may be a couple of other options on ebay. First you could perhaps find a donor unit. Look here and you see a long list of new and used units. The HP Pavilion TouchSmart 14-b109wm is not an expensive unit and there is a used one that is currently at $117.50.

Last, if this fits the bill, you might offer this guy $140.00. The listing says “or best offer” and all they can say is no. Given the value of these units though, I’d be hard pressed to invest much more than that in a replacement touch screen.

All just FYI. Be sure to post back and let us know how it goes.

    Best, Dave

I like your idea about offering $140 for the ebay unit that is "or best offer". I'm going to ask my friend if he would be okay with that because I know that I would be. I'll report back. Again, your assistance is very appreciated, thank you.

I have made an offer of $130, but this seller declined and made a counter offer of $213. Then I offered $140 and was declined. That pretty much tells me this seller isn't going to budge on the price. I might be ordering from China very soon. I will let you know how it goes.

Hmmm... Given the B140XTT01.0 part # in the Samsung replacement, perhaps this is a good lead. It'll be tough to tell though unless you disassemble the unit. Have you done that yet?

I never disassembled the digitizer from the LCD panel. I didn't want to do that unless I had to in order to reassemble the digitizer to a new LCD. I simply removed the completely assembly from the laptop shell.

Also, decided against a substitution. I ordered the exact part from China. It is the complete assembly. It shipped yesterday and should arrive in 5 days (or so I am being told; it will be impressive to make it here that soon).

I hope that works out for you guys. Your experience with this vendor, quality of the replacement assembly, and the old digitizer could prove valuable to others. Once you get the unit repair completed, perhaps you can then better evaluate the feasibility of only replacing a digitizer using the dead assembly as a test piece. Just something to tinker with a bit…and pass along. Thanks for posting back.

You read my mind regarding the dead LCD + still-functioning digitizer. I would love to know how difficult or easy it is to make a successful repair with a new LCD. I'm a little surprised that I don't see other forum members with the same dilemma.

DHL notified me that the package should arrive today. I post again after I complete the repair.

    Update:

The new LCD + Digitizer screen arrived on Friday, and I installed it the following Sunday. No problems at all. Item was as described, packaged very well, and shipping was unbelievably fast. Installed it with ease and now the laptop is good to go.

Thanks for your help, Dave. I do hope others can benefit from this thread. At the very least, I will offer that www.aroseks.com is a legitimate vendor, and they have a rather large selection on parts for laptops and smart phones.

Good Deal.... happy it all worked out for you guys and I'll mark your vendor as reliable. That in itself is good info. If you get a chance to tinker with the old digitizer I'd be interested in hearing your thoughts on the feasibility of a subcomponent repair. If not... that's ok too...

    Hi there
Just wondering if you managed to find a replacement screen for this model and where I might find one.
