I have a HP Compaq nw8440 and I was wondering if there is anyway to do a clean install of WinXP. There is just too much useless business junk bloatware when you restore it to factory state and slowing down the performance. How do I go about this? I definitely do not have the money to buy another OS for this purpose. Can I use a bootlegged copy of XP and use the CDkey on the back of the notebook? If this is doable, how do I go about doing a clean install? I do have experience of doing clean installs on desktops but have never done it on a laptop. Is it just the same or do I need to change some bios settings as such?
Thanks for listening

Installing an OS is the same whether it's a laptop or desktop, so nothing should change.
And no, you won't be able to use the cdkey on the notebook with a bootlegged copy of XP. If you want a fresh install, you need an XP cd with a real key. -
so does that mean I can't do a clean install until and unless I purchase a new OS?

You have to contact Microsoft about the key on your computer and activate it to be used with re-installation.
Otherwise yes, you need to purchase/get another key.
