My laptop has "Wireless LAN 802.11a/b/g/n". Does this support speeds of 300mbps or not and if it does can someone give me a deal on one for under 80 dollars. Also what is the best brand to buy: Linksys, belkin, dlink, or netgear.

Wireless n currently supports maximum speeds of about 250mb/s, however this is only a theoretical maximum so the actual speed may be slower. I know belkin make n routers, not sure as to the other brands. I've used two netgear devices before and was not really impressed. I have set up a 802.11g Linksys wireless router though and it was pretty easy to work with. So far no problems with it since i set it up.

I don't know one thing about wireless N but I have had experience with a few different makers of wireless routers. My first router was a Linksys, dont know what model but it was a G. It was great. I moved from that place where it was located so I decided not to take it with me because I would leave my friend without one. So I got Belkin wireless g router. It sucked. Dropped signal every ten minutes. At least. I gave it to a friend. That was bout three months ago. It died last week. After I gave it away I got a D-Link. It sucked. Everybody I know prefers Linksys. They're easier to set up.

I'm pretty sure the max theoretical speed is 300Mb/s (megabits not megabytes). However, I heard the Intel Wireless N chip that comes with most notebook is only able to support up to 150Mb/s. Even 150Mb/s is more than enough for internet as even the greatest ISP will only give you 20Mb/s download/upload speeds.

I've had excellent experiences with Netgear routers. I haven't had anything to do with Linksys for about 7 years now. Not since I was having a problem with one of their routers randomly dropping connections, and the tech-support dweeb I spoke with could only say, "I've never heard of that happening. Maybe you should try another router." I returned the Linksys, got me a Netgear, and haven't looked back.
