I've replaced a crashed hard drive in this netbook Compaq 705EI also similar to HP mini 1000 . the new hard drive (120GB from Samsung) was tested and it's OK. I'm using an external USB drive with an original disk.
The strange thing is that the install is not slow only on hard drive related or something like that, it's slow even on parts like the end of the installation ("creating start menu items") where it's suppose to be something simple.

After installation which continues without any error, windows works perfectly fine.

    any ideas?
