    HP Mini 5101 (netbook)

I installed Windows 7 on this machine but explorer.exe will not start when I boot. I have to do enter task manager to run explorer.exe.

Sometime when I come back to my machine and the screen saver is on it will be the same thing - explorer.exe is gone.

What was the source media? (usb, digital river download, p2p, original disc...?)

I'd probably just do reinstall myself if that happened in a fresh installation.

Did you do upgrade or clean install?

If upgrade, something might have transferred from the old installation. Either now non-working settings or even malware.
