My laptop is a HP DV2500t CTO model bought directly from HPshopping.com in mid - 2007. It got very hot very quickly and had random although infrequent shut-downs right from the beginning, but I didn't know about the Nvidia defect and brushed the symptoms off as some unstable Windows problems. Big mistake! Because the random shut-downs became more frequent after a year, the machine constantly ran very hot while doing nothing and the screen would flicker with irregular lines and patterns, and then one day the screen just went dark.
By that time, I already heard about the Nvidia defect and did some research online, I found out that there are a lot of other HP consumers affected. However, when I called HP tech support, the technician and the case manager played dumb with me, saying that they are not aware of the Nvidia faulty chip problem and I have to pay $400 USD to get my laptop fixed. When I directed them to the HP.com page about Enhanced Warranty, the Case Manager told me: This enhanced warranty is for some motherboard issues unrelated to Nvidia chips and that HP does NOT have any program covering customers who are affected by the defective Nvidia chips. He then added: there is absolutely no way for you to get a free repair from us, you have to pay!. How Shameless and what a liar!![]()
I will try my best never buy another HP product again! Absolutely no HP in my house when there is an alternative or competing product available, period.

don't let them fool you!!!! Nvidia has said in a press conference that all flawed cpus will have a 2 year warranty!!!! Contact them and threaten to sue them!!!

HP are notorious for supplying poor thermal conducting heat pads that deteriote over time.
You can get the CPU a bit cooler by undervolting using RMClock. -
Thank you i will never buy another HP you have showed me that hp sucks. Not

I'm very satisfied with my HP notebook. All notebooks are going to get warm eventually. Go get a notebook cooler or call HP and tell them your notebook overheats. They will try to repair it.

Every laptop company has problems, Acer, Dell, Hp, etc. My friend has had an Hp for 4 years now without a hiccup. Not every laptop will be perfect.

I was seriously considering buying a HDX18t but then read about the dust issues with their Infinity screens. So I emailed them asking if this issue has been resolved. I even linked the NBR thread pointing to the problem.
I got a response from someone at HP saying they looked at the linked thread but have never heard of this issue before and consider it FUD, so I should just go ahead and buy it with full confidence.
What a bunch of liars so I decided no HP laptops for me. -
In actuality, everyone is making a big ruckus over tiny little barely noticeable dust particles stuck between the LCD and the plastic overlay. All of those people have OCD and/or are perfectionists. It doesn't impair the laptop's function. I don't have a single noticeable particle in my display. Maybe I didn't look with a microscope? That's just my two cents.
They have a very nice return policy. If you don't like it, return it! -

I agree the dust shouldn't be in there. However, is it really necessary to make such a big problem out of something so small and in no way impairs the laptop function?

I have an HP Pavilion HDX "Dragon" - it is the best laptop ever. I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!

Mad love to my HDX16.

It seems to have been well-documented and a lot of people are furious about it.
I myself have been struck by this problem and I've had the same sentiments as other people are having. I too am extremely disappointed with HP. Contrary to what some of you are saying, this is not a simple case of one bad product and that people are just making a big deal over it. This has been a widespread problem, and what's even more frustrating is the company has done absolutely nothing to resolve this issue.
Am I saying that from now on, it would be proper to assume that all of their products are going to be bad. No obviously not, but you have to understand how people feel.
Read more about it on this HP-Forum thread:
http://h30434.www3.hp.com/psg/board/message?board.id=Hardware&thread.id=1121
What's really shocking is that there have been several instances on that thread where HP's very own forum mods have edited other people's posts and deleted links and content that contains information that might be critical of HP. Essentially, what they're trying to do is cover up the problem and pretty much immunize themselves from criticism.
This is extremely disappointing for a lot of people. I have always liked their products. I did a lot of research when I purchased mine's (dv2500t). I thought it was an excellent choice but now, it's quite the opposite.
And so, just so everyone understands how bad the nVidia overheating problem has been, somebody has even created an entire site dedicated to documenting these problems:
http://www.hplies.com/ -
HP forum moderators do edit members' messages. I left a comment regarding the wifi problem with my dv2138xx and they deleted the part on which I stated that I had a 8 year lowly Averatec laptop in which the wifi is still working!

Here is the bottom line.
Say you select a laptop. The better the vendor the less chance of it having design issues. Also better chances of you getting decent support.
With reagrds to support typically the business lines(HP Business, Dell Business) have better support than their consumer line. Lesser known brands like Acer/Gateway, etc has horrible support(my bro-in-law's Gateway has been to the repair depot for 4 times and it keeps coming back with new issues. He has to pay for shipping everytime. Contrast that with my HP Business laptop for which HP mails me a pre-paid Fedex Overnight label & box to mail in my laptop!!!).
At the end of the day don't buy a new laptop line as soon as it comes out. Do some research on forums like NBR to know the proc/cons and figure out major problems and then buy. -
For me it's 2 wins, 2 losses with HP -
I blame the cause of the problem. If my hard drive fails ill blame samsung. If my chipset fails under normal use ill blame nvidia ( unless its cooling related then its hp's fault ) If my screen gets a virtical line ill blame LG. Its not HP's fault that LG's screen developed a virtical line on my dv6500t.

If you really hate HP so much how about buying Compaq?
Anyway speaking of Enchanced Warranty only for motherboard....I was told they offered me Enchanced Warranty for one time when I had wireless died I didnt take it to HP repair center only to store where I bought it I assumed the store sent my notebook to HP for repair I dont know if they actually replaced motherboard?
-
Compaq... ha! Well I don't necessarily hate HP. I'm just a little wary of HP now. I really like their products, but again, I am a little hesitant to purchase another HP laptop. I know things can happen with any "manufacturer", but the way it gets handled makes a difference.
Reading through these forums, you can see all the problems people have been having with HP, whether it be this faulty gpu, or something different. I know that it is rare for someone to give any praise for good service, so it is hard to compare good vs bad.
From personal experience, the one notebook I did have repaired came back in good condition. But, it shouldn't have needed service so soon.
Never buy HP product again!
