I've had my presario 3000 for about a month. I don't remember if I've ever heard a fan or not. It feels kind of hot on the right side of my notebook and was wondering if it was overheating. Thanks for any help/advice. I don't see the fan blades moving either. At what point are they suppose to turn on? or are they always suppose to be on? Ran mobile meter: Temp is low to mid 50's and HDD is around mid 40's.

All I know is, the R3000 is supposed to get warm but I think your fans should have spun by now.

I'm going to guess that you have an Athlon XP-M CPU, since the standard behavior for that chip is to start the fan at 55C and stop it when the temp drops back to 50C. With power management enabled (as it is by default) the fan won't run very often unless you're doing something to max out the CPU. Anyhow, it sounds like you have a normal notebook to me.

Thanks for the help. Yea you're right. I do have an Athlon XP-M and I don't really do anything intensive.
