Since the 30 % coupon ran out I'm going to try and save my zx5000. I never received an XP CD-ROM when I received this laptop. I called HP and they said the files are on my hard drive and I can burn it and make it myself... But my warrenty is up so I would have to pay $40 for them to explain how to do that![]()
So I'm assuming i have to copy my I386 folder to a blank DVD-R. Do I also need to create a seperate disk for my ntdetect hidden files on my C:?
Please help me out my laptop is on it's way out and I want to try a clean restore. Thanks in advance!

HPs come with a restore disc creator. It's one of the programs that's on your computer.

I can't seem to find it... The only HP app I see is "HP memory disk". That is just for backing up your files I believe which is not what I'm looking for...
Where would it be located? I can't seem to find it in start>programs or in my program files... -
run a search for recovery manager. You should have it there and create disk from there.

You could make a retail Windows CD into a HP Windows CD using the OEMBIOS method:

I did a search and came up with nothing...

Your zx5000 is old enough to have shipped with a XP and drivers CD and not have the rstore partition or the restore software which HP and everyone else is suggesting.
Your best option currently is to make a copy of XP CD using the i386 folder( this thread might help) or get a Windows XP disc(preferebly from another HP system, not the new restore discs) and install using that. Download the drivers from HP's website for your system...
