Hey guys, I've been watching for a good coupon to get a laptop for college for the past year. What do you think about HP's new coupon? Here is the code NB7995 it is only for 1000 laptops. Should I take advantage of this or wait for HP to impliment the new Intell Processors?
-
When (and if) HP puts out the new models next month, I doubt they will be offering coupons on them at first. If anything, they will be pushing the old models to get rid of the parts......
-
I just used this coupon and it worked... I am so effing excited! After much mulling over, on these threads, youtue videos, and playing around with various machines at best buy and such... heres what I got

I am going back to school and felt like I needed a laptop I can take back and forth but also something I could replace my old desktop with. This is my first laptop and I am frickin pumped! Thanks to all you guys on thses boards for helping me to finally man up and make a decision.
So... What do you think about my setup? Any comments are welcome... -
I would pick up one today also but I wish HP would offer a newer/better video card and a 1440 x 900 screen!
-
I'm thinking that's the only weakness in my rig but can't I just upgrade that my self later if I see fit?
-
the screen probably, but not the video. Its virtually impossible to upgrade laptop video cards!
-
Your setup looks good. Congrats on the order!
-
**** it... I don't game anyway, just want smooth performance in Vista Areo and video playback and such... Thanks for the comments... damn I geeked!!!
-
You shouldn't have any problems with that setup. Even my Go 7200 handles Aero and general video playback without a hitch.
-
The 8400 is fine, its much better than most integrated chips like the X3100.
-
I agree, Dell has been offering 15.4" screens in 1440x900 flavor for quite awhile now. However, on the other hand, Dell has seen fit to stick with the 128MB version of the 8400M GS, while HP has upgraded their 15.4" laptops with 8400M GS videocards with 256MB of memory.
I'm curious to know why you spent the insane amount of $200 in order to upgrade to 4GB of RAM. Quite frankly, you could have saved yourself quite a bit of money by purchasing a kit of DDR2 laptop RAM from Newegg.
For example, I purchased a kit of OCZ laptop memory, 4GB of DDR2 800 (2 DIMMS) for about $60 bucks after mail-in rebate. Regular price without the rebate was $75, still well over a $120 in savings versus your having bought a 4GB kit for $200.
The nice thing about upgrading your latop with aftermarket memory is that in most cases, like OCZ, they offer full lifetime warranties on their memory modules. I can guarantee you that HP won't be offering that once your warranty on your laptop expires.
Ah well, lesson learned... I hope.
-
Well, for one I dont know **** about installing RAM, I'd rather have it just all built in. And second, I had to reach $ 1400 mark to get the $-400 discount on hardware alone and all my other specs were pretty much maxed out!
But ****, now you have me questioning my order... -
He probably had to spend that much to get the price up to the point where the $400 coupon would work.
-
You are a GENIUS!!!
-
Bro, (may I call you that?), installing RAM is about the most easiest and fundamental task a computer enthusiast can do to their computer. Seriously, there is an abundance of guides and other documentation on the 'net that show you how to upgrade memory modules in a laptop.
Hell, if nothing else, you could post here and ask, and anyone here would be more than happy to help you walk you through it. Here's a couple guides that you might enjoy:

True. But he could have opted for an extended warranty, which is what I would have done. -
Sure you can call me bro...
Aghhh... F it. Maybe I should of went with the warranty but, oh well, I guess I'll have to chalk it up to being a noobie. -
Depending on when you submitted your order, you may have time to cancel it. I would encourage you, if you were inclined to do so, to call HP (don't worry, someone in India will be there to take your call) and cancel the order.
Then, once payment has been reversed/stopped etc. order your laptop once again. However, you do run the risk of the deal expiring, so it may be a gamble.
Regardless, your laptop is stoked, and you'll have a helluva time on it. =) -
Yeah prolly not worth it, i've been waiting for the coupon and jumped on it right away! Thanks for the advice though, I can't wait to play with it!
-
is it just for dv6700t or can it be used for dv9700t?
-
The coupons usually apply to the whole CTO Pavilion line.
-
I think I'll gamble for an even bigger discount as we get close to Montevino. It's happened before.
-
I dunno if that will happen. The prices for the dv series are really at all time lows.
-
I recently ordered a dv9700t. I had previously ordered a dv6700tse. I kept it for just under three weeks and returned it. It worked great and I had no complaints at all. I decided I would really prefer the larger 17 inch screen model. It affords 31 percent more display area and has much better specs for about the same money. It has a much better GPU, faster hard drives (option) and higher resolution screen (option). If you don't mind everything smaller (very easy to get use to) the higher resolution screen is terrific. It dramatically increases your effective work area and is great for watching movies. IMO it is a much better model for a desktop replacement. It all depends on how much portability your require. I noticed you got two batteries. A downside to the dv9700t is it will not last any where as long as the 12 cell on the dv6700tse. And you may consider getting the extra Accidental Coverage as well. If you damage your laptop down the road you will be very very glad you did. Just a few thoughts.
Good Luck! -

-
In past purchases I have received the units roughly 3 days after the build date, as Fedex seems pretty fast.
As for where, the configure-to-order units ship from directly from the ODM in Shanghai. -
I think the coupon is already unavailable. Am I wrong?
