Well....it was time to upgrade my dell Inspiron 9400 laptop that is five years old. After some shopping, I decided to by an HP laptop.

I just pulled the trigger on an HP dv8t Quad Edition with the following specs:

    • Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
    • Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-720QM Quad Core processor (1.6GHz, 6MB L3 Cache) with Turbo Boost up to 2.8 GHz
    • 8GB DDR3 System Memory (2 Dimm)
    • 500GB 7200RPM SATA Hard Drive with HP ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection
    • 1GB Nvidia GeForce GT 230M
    • 18.4" diagonal High Definition HP Ultra BrightView Infinity Display (1920x1080p)
    • Lightscribe Blu-ray ROM with SuperMulti DVD+/-R/RW with Double Layer Support
    • Webcam + Fingerprint Reader with HP Imprint Finish (Espresso Black)
    • Intel Wireless-N Card with Bluetooth
    • HP Integrated HDTV Hybrid Tuner
    • 8 Cell Lithium Ion Battery

It is expected to be shipped around February 26.

I plan on either photographing or filming the unboxing. I also want to run Passmark and test with CoD6 and Crysis. I will report back when I get my new baby!

    EDIT:
I just noticed my old signature! It's been a while since I have been on here. I need to change that!!!! LOL!

Congrats on your HP purchase! Just curious, what made you cross over to the HP side?

Hope you got some good coupons and/or discounts. if not, it's not too late to quash your order and place a new one with coupons/discounts. I had to do that when I first bought my dv5t a year ago, because I didn't even know that coupons existed, and didn't find out about them until after I had placed my order. When I called Sales Support, HP let me apply the current coupons though, because they knew I would just cancel and reorder. Saved about $600.

Feature set! Particularly Blueray and HDMI. Alienware (Dell) does not offer that. Also the HDTV tuner. And HP was much more affordable.

Well....the beast arrived today! Very impressive!

I still need to do a passmark test, but the Windows Experience Index is 5.9 which comes from the following specs:

    Processor: Calculations per second: 6.2
Memory (RAM): Memory operations per seconds: 7.4
Graphics: Desktop Performance for Windows Aero: 6.4
Gaming Graphics: 3D business and gaming graphics performance: 6.4
Primary hard Disk: Disk data transfer rate: 5.9

If I had gone with a solid state drive, I would have scored better. So far, Call of Duty Modern War 2 and Star Trek Online looks great. I will try to shoot some in-game video of those and get them posted.
