So you're saying this update dropped your GPU's temp by 10c? Could you post before and after benchmarks so that we have a more accurate idea of the kind of load temp decreases we can expect?

Same. This shipped with mine as well.

I wish they would fix the Internet Explorer problem. I've heard of a few people having the same issues. That IE would just freeze up and would have to be closed forcibly through task manager.

I doubt it has anything to do with the mobo. I'm guessing driver issues. It only happens on this dv5t. On my desktop, doesn't happen at all and I use the same Vista Ultimate x64 SP1 with all updates.

You either can go into the bios directly or use a Windows information program/utility, like Everest, or PC Wizard.

I'd doubt it. Most BIOS updates are very specific for a specific model

I'd be careful with BIOS updates. If its out for the DV5T there must be a reason for needing it. Your DV7T may not need it and putting an unsupported BIOS on is very risky

Just FYI, the BIOS update hung on me the first time I ran it, and I got really nervous. So I downloaded then extracted than ran(I was originally using Firefox and I had everything going through the download manager). At one point, I couldn't even power it off using the power button so I had to pull the plug and also pull the battery

This update WON'T install on a dv7t, I've already tried ;) Question is, will us dv7t users be getting a similar update to upgrade our notebooks

why did you try installing a bios not even made for dv7t? you might brick that if you're not careful with bios update.

Winflash is smart enough to recognize that the BIOS isnt compatible for your notebook and wont let you proceed.

This BIOS update probably just tweaks the fan algorithm to run more or engage earlier.

Just downloaded this bios update and yes, the heat change is quite phenomenal. The hottest my 9600 has achieved in the past is 95 degrees but typically it peaks at about 85 with the back raised an inch. After installing the bios update my temperature is peaking at 76 which is quite amazing. Note, I freaked out after clicking "start" to flash the update and the computer immediately froze, no mouse activity, no status bar, fan buzzed up to full bore, I waited, I waited and the computer finally restarted after about a minute. Phew!

after over an hours solid gaming on call of duty 4 I managed to get the 9600 up to 79 degrees. Typically the temp would peak 6+ degrees higher. I also re-ran 3dmark05 to see if it was effected but didn't see any score impact, still 8060 3d marks. One thing I noticed that an annoying pulsing in fan speed at idle speeds has stopped - so far.

The pulsing fan annoyance seems to have gone for good. I wanted to really put the screws down on my laptop to test the heat thing again. Ambient temp 22 degrees C. A couple of hours of COD4 gaming and the peak was 83 deg C. With a stint like that I would have been around the 95 degrees mark prior to the bios update (with back raised too).
