Downgrading to pre-F.3D BIOSes is a very bad idea. But by all means pester HP to fix the wired LAN bug they introduced.

I never had any problems resuming from sleep with the F.3A BIOS, but I can understand why the fan/heat issue would be considered bad.
Agreed 110%. My goal is to confirm and fully document the issue, then raise complete and utter !@#$%^&*? with HP.

In a chat support session today, HP suggested changing Vista service configurations and disabling the 'Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power' option on the LAN device Power Management tab, then removing and re-installing Vista's APIC software.

Isn't it funny  how a BIOS upgrade suddenly requires changing system service and hardware device settings that have worked properly for months, and re-installing Vista software components? /me thinks an Acronis True Image complete backup is in order before attemping any unnecessary system configuration changes.

Thanks, but you're not telling me something I don't already know. And that's not a  face at you, that's aimed squarely at HP. :(

I put my laptop to sleep after making those changes a few nights ago, and the LAN connection was restored when resuming a few hours later. I put it back to sleep and left it overnight and the next day. When I came back to it, the fan was running, the backlight was on, the keyboard leds were lit, but the screen was black and the keyboard was unresponsive. It required a power-button hard shutdown to reset.

Today's chat agent tried to point the blame at Vista SP1, but that was running fine several days before the F.3D BIOS was installed. Then they suggested I re-install the previous BIOS. If they made it available, I WOULD!! Finally, they suggested I reset the BIOS to defaults and restart the laptop. Yeah, sure, whatever . . .

My dv9410us laptop again refused to connect to the wired LAN upon resuming from hibernation today. Vista device manager says 'device is working properly'. Immediately contacted HP support, refused to change anything, demanded replacement or refund. Got escalated to a case manager. Here's hoping I get one of the good ones.

Case manager George called me early Monday morning. I described the numerous attempts to address the problem and he finally recommended I return the laptop for repair. So I'm getting a box and it's traveling to Fremont, CA. I did receive an order number and the case manager's phone number and extension, so I'm hoping for the best. I also did a complete Acronis TrueImage backup last night and then restored the original HP installation. My 2GB RAM is coming out, and the original 2 * 512MB RAM is going back in before I ship it. It's not that I expect my own personal horror story, I've just read too darned many of them here and at the HP support forums.
