Okay, so my friend has some v5000 model with a whimpy core solo. It has the 945gm chipset (not the 940), so i know it should work with any socket m Core Duo or 2 Duo. But when I look around online I find inconsistant stories: some people saying the new cpu must be pulled form another hp/compaq, others saying it just needs to be the right stepping.

So, I guess me questions are these:
1)Does the new chip need to be pulled from an another hp/compaq?

    2) or does it just need to be a chip that was sold with that line on that motherboard? eg, any t2600 stepping c0, from any manufacturer.

or am i missing something else?

Again, my friend's model has the 430198-001 mainboard, with the Full-Featured 945gm.

I've changed processors before on other laptops, but alot posters seem to think that hp/compaq are really picky about what goes in their computers.

    Thanks
