Just to let you all know, HP has finally added the T7700 2.4 Ghz Processor to the DV9500t. Also some better hard drive options are avabile. Just to let everyone know.

The difference between the T7700 and the T7300 is actually quite small. In routine tasks, it's only noticed in benchmarks. Buying the highest end processor, no matter what series, has always been more of a bragging rights thing, but I'd rather have $100 than bragging rights.

There's no point to wait for the next best thing to come out. Buy a laptop when you need a laptop. If you get this HP with the T7700, the new Penryn's will come out a few months later. If you wait for the Penryn's, the next best thing will come out a few months later. The cycle will never stop, no matter what, you won't have the best for long.

well i do tons of 3d work and video editing... do you guys think i should go with the 2.2 ghz or spend the extra 100 for the 2.4 ghz? Will i notice a differenc when rendering heavy scenes? I would think this will give me an extra boost but i could be wrong.

T7500 should be enough..make sure you got a lot of memory and biggest video card. I do the same on my machine. Lots of HD-rendering and it's really working fast! AVCHD requires a LOT of power!

"T7500 should be enough"... but, i have the extra $100.. i worked hard during summer saving for my new laptop so i dont mind spending the extra cash.. since you are in the same line of work (lots of rendering) give me your opinion. :D thanks

I think he just gave you his opinion. The difference is small, but it's a personal decision. Is the small difference in speed worth $100 to you? If so, buy it.

When I have had a T7300 in my 9500 and replaced it (whole laptop) with T7500 - I did not feel any noticable boost. That's my experience. So, I think you will not SEE the difference between T7500 and T7700. You will get some "BOOST" seeing performance marks.

You're better off spending the money on memory or video. If you already have that maxed out, then sure, go for the processor, but that's really a lower priority. While you're at it, send me some of that extra cash you have laying around...

DO NOT and I mean DO NOT buy 4 GB of RAM from HP. If you want 4 Gb of RAM, buy the system with the minimum amount, then hit the Hot RAM Deals and install it yourself.

zd7000 is a pretty old model and uses DDR memory. The dv9500t uses DDR2 memory. DDR2 is not backwards compatible, so you wont be able to use that memory on your old laptop.

You can buy two 2GB sticks. Its the same as buying a kit containing 2X2GB.
The RAM you linked will work fine.

DDR3 RAM is scheduled to roll out in 2008. DDR3 for graphics memory is currently available but they are not related to DDR3 RAM.

It's nice that a higher speed processor is being offered, but in the grand scheme of things...big deal.

If HP REALLY wants to sell more 9500's, they would offer the 8700GT (or higher) as a GPU option. That's the only reason I haven't bought one; the 8600M is crap for games. The rest of the laptop is darn near perfect; the 8600M GS as the best option is just a shame.

DDR3 is already out for desktops, but it is close to $1,000 for 1GB of RAM. It will be out for laptops in the near future, but it will be expensive. I would expect that you will start seeing them regularly in manufactured laptops and desktops later this year or early next year, because they are very expensive at the moment.

For 4GB of RAM it is a lot cheaper to do it yourself because it will only cost you from 200-230 instead of the 475 that HP will charge.

Michaeld, I completely agree with you! I just bought s dv9500t and I'm about to tell them to cancel the order. I love the design of the laptop and everything else in it, except that it doesn't offer a better video card. I honestly can't believe that they don't offer a better one except in their Pavilion HDX. I made my decision that I'm going to cancel the order and save up some more money for the Pavilion HDX, unless they come out with a better video card for the DV9500t in the near future. I figured why not wait and get exactly what I want, and a laptop that will be able to handle games for the next couple years.

I think saying the 8600GS is "crap" for games would be an exaggeration. Sure, there are a few better options out there, but it is a capable card. Besides, hard-core gaming should be done on a desktop anyway.

OK; I'll admit that saying the 8600M GS is "crap for videogames" was a tad strong.

    Let's say:

Also; I have a high-end desktop for gaming. However, my job puts me on the road for roughly two months total every year. I game when I'm done with doing work on the laptop. :) I need a capable machine...but don't want to spend $2,500 on one. The 9500 would be PERFECT w/a 8700GT; HP could offer a 8700GT option and it would tack maybe $150 more on top of the 8600M 512MB option. I'd buy one right now. Heck, I would've bought one last week when HP was offering the 20% off coupon! :(

I see your point about the 8700GT. That would be nice.

The 8600GS can play some games on high settings, and the more demanding ones on lower settings. I would consider that capable, especially if my main gaming machine was a desktop and I didn't rely on the laptop for gaming all the time.

My dv9500 is hot as hell already with the two 7200rpm drives. Sure i'd like a nice graphics card but i think it would definitely melt my legs.

Can't say for sure, but most likely, no. HP will probably continue to sell the 2,6,9 series with the current options until the next series comes out.
