Recently picked up an HP dv6119us at Circuit City which cost me $770 after rebates. I mainly picked this up for when I travel ( I work for HP  ) . Yes I could have gotten a discount of 15% but I was rushed to get something soon so had to get it locally. Couple things I noticed is the palm rests get pretty warm when plugged into wall power and the battery is taking a charge... if its on battery power or the battery has full charge the palm rests don't seem as warm. I picked up a Hitachi 100G 7200RPM drive which was a noticeable difference in desktop performance. Any idea how much battery life I am losing because of this upgrade? or how much extra heat I could be adding? I did notice this drive is a little louder when seeking but I was told some laptops have options to help quieten the seeks? Thanks for any input. This is my first laptop.. I purchased a Dell E1505 for my g/f and loved hers so much I had to have something. Also... any performance GO 6150 drivers out there?

The power consumption and heat difference should be minimal. They're neat toys but I was lazy and kept the 5400RPM HD my dv9008nr came with.

thx... I started running NHC and its a very neat program.. HD is about 43C at idle and 54C for the CPU.. this notebook gets warm but this is my third one the same model becuase I had problems with two of them.. dead pixels.. cracks on my 2nd one... What I noticed is on battery power and NHC installed I cant jack the brightness up... where can I adjust this??? the FN key isnt working now.

Hmm... if you did a clean install onto your new HD, did you remember to install the HP Quick Launch Buttons driver? If you didn't there will be a yellow question mark "Unknown Device" in Device Manager.

Its installed... all the other Fn keys are working.. seems to be just the brightness control which I think is being controlled by NHC. When I plug it into wall power its full bright.

Try this. Worked well enough on my last Hitachi.

"Change the drive automatic acoustic management settings
    - Lowest acoustic emanation setting (quiet seek mode) or maximum performance level (normal seek mode)"

    http://www.hitachigst.com/hdd/support/download.htm

Battery life isn't great and the "normal", though unsubstantiated, temp for the Turion X2, at least for the 6Z series, seems to be in the 50C-59C area. Warmer than I'd like, but considering the max thermal temp is 95C, nowhere near it's danger zone.

You can find the Quick Launch Control Center in "Control Panel" under "HP Quick Launch Buttons". Create a shortcut to the desktop and copy it to the Task Bar from there. If for some reason you don't have a Control Panel entry, the name of the module is "Qlbconfg.cpl. You can find it in "Program Files", "Hewlett-Packard", "HP Quick Launch Buttons".
