I don't know if you guys have noticed but HP has updated the bios for the Dv6000t. One major thing that I am happy for now is the ability to turn on/off Intel VT in the bios. Before it was disabled. With this enabled you can run 64 bit operating systems on top of a 32 bit operating system and have better performance in virtual machines. With programs like VMware Workstation.

Can you point us to where this bios update is located on their site. I just went there looking for it and all I saw was the bios update "for laptops with AMD processors". (It directed me there despite the fact that I specified I have a dv6000cto with the "t" (Intel) preocessor.... Thanks!

FYI: I installed this new bios on my dv6000t and it actually reduced (considerably) the annoying high-pitched whine all the Pavillions are experiencing. I say "reduced" because there is still a faint tone or whine that you can hear, BUT the update seems to have eliminated the constant change in the pitch of the whine AND greatly reduced the volume. I really have to listen now to hear it whereas before it was a constant annoying whine that constantly changed pitch.

Wish they has included a switch to turn off the beeps and the lights for the quick-access buttons!

I heard you could disable the sound in the startup bios (Pressing f10 at startup), but I don't know what version of the bios you need.

Follow-up: The new bios update for the dv6000t includes the option to turn off the annoying "beep" on the quick-access buttons. Thanks for suggesting I look under the set-up options (f10). Maybe someday they will also include an option to turn off all the lights and get rid of the rest of the processor whine. You listening out there HP??? I was at Best Buy the other day and couldn't hear this whine on any of the other brands with Intel processors (Core Duo/Core2 Duo)..... even the crappiest "never-heard-of-them" brands. You're doing something wrong and it shouldn't take optional programs running in the background or turning off all kinds of USB management to cure it.

That whining noise would be reduced just by using rightmark cpu clock utility

How do we check what bios verion we have without rebooting PC? Is there any down side to upgrading to this Bios if I'm not having any issues on my lappy?
