The inside looks cool, but personally I like the old Envy design better. The flat outer edge looks like they're going back to their older models. They should put an engraving of some sorts also..it just looks too plain right now.

Anyone have any guesses about which graphics cards are going into each one?

Personaly I like the minimalized look. Although can't really decide what to think about that volume wheel... Black lid looks cool, but at moments it's just too much...
Wasn't really a fan of those engravings, looked kind of flashy, but in a bad way.

Somewhere I've read that GPU will be a rehashed AMD 6750M, something like 7690 or something... But I guess they'll have to share the information soon, since it's suppose to be ready for orders in 3 weeks.

The HP Envy 15 equipped with an Intel Core i7, Radeon HD 7690M GPU will be going for US$1488 (no local pricing yet). We’ve also been told that there could be a purchase to purchase option of Beats audio equipment to cater for those who already own Beats equipment, but want the HP Envy 15 to complement the Beats headphones they already own.

It seems it hasen't been released yet. Some say it's scheduled for mid Jannuary, which is contradictora with ENVY 15 release date (7th Dec).
However, according to some information, it should be rehashed 6750M with 1GB DDR5 memory.
Until official information is released from HP, this is all a speculation. It shouldn't be long until they release full spces and prices...
But I guess whatever GPU they put inside it will be powerfull enough, it's always been like that with ENVY machines.

Actually, the Envy 13 only had integrated graphics, if I'm not mistaken, and most Envy 14 users have always been disappointed by the GPU's they put in the 14's - the 5650 in the first-gen runs at minimal clock speeds and the 6630 in the second-gen is basically the same card without the underclock. Compare that to the DV6T which for less money and in only a slightly larger form factor gets the 6770 - so no, it's not always been like that in Envy machines. If the 15 gets a 7690, which is supposed to be basically a rehashed 28 nm version of the 6750, then that may not even be as powerful as the two year-old second-generation Envy 15 - in other words, if this is all correct, the new Envy 15's GPU is no better than the GPU in a two year-old Envy 15, and it's definitely not going to cut modern 1080p gaming, and as such, it will not be powerful enough for anyone considering it as a gaming machine.

Don't really know where did you get the impression I ways talkin about Envy as a serious gaming machine?
All I said is that the GPU will be powerful enough, meaning it will be up to the task as multimedia laptop and machine for occasional-to-medium range gamers. Just the way it's marketed...

But that aside, it seems that AMD has a new series of GPU's afterall.

its not even going to be a 28nm version, only the high end cards will be manufactured in 28nm and the 7690m isnt one of them!

Probably slightly higher clock speeds, like with the 5650 to 6550 rebrand..

Stop with the misinformation, the Thanes and above chips will be 28nm, the 7690 is the top end Thames (Thames XT) Only the Seymour cards will be 40nm, 28nm cards are going to be debuted as midrange only first because higher end cards are more difficult to make plus the highest end 7900 series are made using different transistors therefore requiring a whole new process that's not available for mass production yet.

I'm not a big fan of the black lid. I wish they would have had a silver lid or gun metal colored lid.

I'm assuming we will see another refresh in 2012 when Intel releases Ivy Bridge and we have the ATi 7000 series and Nvidia 600 series Mobile GPUs.

I doubt it will be a refresh as much as a drop-in of the new CPU, it's fully compatible with the old one, plus the AMD 7000 series is being used in the Envy series already, Nvidia's series is 6-8 months away from AMD's

Any news on the GPU from anyone around here?

I'm not looking to buy this for gaming. Just the occasional movie, the usual productivity work (Excel etc.) and Skyping with friends.

My Dell XPS 1530 is still going strong but I'd like to replace it (AND I'm still using Vista).

Those uses shouldn't even use the discrete GPU, so I wouldn't worry about the GPU at all. It's switchable so it won't be causing you any battery life issues, either.

The rumor is that it's a 7690m, which is supposedly a 28nm version of the 6750m more or less. It won't be a powerful gamer at 1080p, but it'll get the job done at lower settings and/or resolutions.
