Well after using Macs for the last twenty odd years I decided I couldn't justify paying the premium and just purchased my first Windows machine. I picked up the Envy 17 with the quad i7, 6 gigs of ram, and the 160 gb ssd. I ordered a copy of Windows 7 professional to do a fresh install and eliminate the bloatware.

I have used Windows machines for school and work in the past, but is there anything special I should be aware of? I know I need to pick up some sort of anti-virus (I was thinking AVG or Kaspersky?) As well as finding and installing all of the necessary drivers after the fresh install.

Thanks for your time and any help would be appreciated.

Nothing really special to be aware of except some ui changes, etc. You'll see when you do get to the desktop after installing it. Otherwise its just plain faster than the past except maybe some slight edge to xp. With anti-virus, AVG is free I believe while kaspersky is not. Though I would recommend kaspersky over AVG. Also take a look at Panda Security if I was going to have an anti-virus I'd get them. As for finding drivers, windows will automatically get some for you. Otherwise you can find them on the hp site or you can back them up from the sw_setup folder before you fresh install.
