Hey folks,
I've owned 2 envy 17's in the past, the first gens. A first gen reg and a first gen 3D. I got rid of them both, due to how hot they got, it was ridiculous.
How are the new 3X series with heat dissipation and warmth? I like the new series but I'll never buy another if they all still share the heat issue.
Thanks.

The new 3rd gens have separate fans and heatpipes for the CPU and GPU, so I would assume it's at least an improvement over the previous gens.

I played a few games for a few hours with the dedicated gpu and the bottom got warm - but not hot. The top stayed pretty cool. Everyday use (web, office, etc) does not even get it warm.

The new 15 has a dedicated heatpipe for the cpu, and a shared one for the gpu and cpu.
Mine has the i5 and it has never gotten hot to the touch, and temp monitored with cpuid hw monitor never get close to worrying, maxing around 65C if Im really stressing it.
The right palm rest can get warm if you use the hard drive alot though. -
The bottom stays cool to warm while gaming. The top between the keyboard and screen gets very hot, almost too hot to touch. I've seen temps get to around 98*C while gaming.

My previous experience, on both of the older Envy 17's was that the keyboards got way too hot to even touch comfortably during gaming and no way could it touch your leg. It was ridiculous.

My Envy 15 has stayed cool so far during gaming sessions, which is more than I can say for the DV7 in my sig. At the beginning it stayed relatively cool during gaming sessions, now a year later, it gets pretty darn hot and the fans go nuts while I'm gaming. I regularly clean the exhaust fans. The only other thing I can think of is to repaste the heatsink. I really hope this doesn't happen with my Envy.

FYI, I have a second gen Envy 17 3D and have no heat problems. Under stress, I can push the fans to max and temps to 90C; but under normal load, it's cool and quiet. -
If that's the case then yeah, the GPU always below 60, around 54 ~ 55 when it's not under load.
New Envy's over heat, put out too much heat or get too warm?
