Anyone care to test it out and report back on the fan behavior and temps?
-
-
why dont you test it for yourself first-hand?
If it doesnt work out for you then flashback to the older bios -
I tested it work fine, even made a bios mod for the dv9700t
8600m 512, no problem ggoooo for it! -
I updated mine as well, no problem.
-
Will this BIOS work with winXP?
-
Yes, should work fine with Windows XP installed. All it is, is an update to the BIOS. And is says it up there. Works well on Vista x64. Go for it.
-
I triple boot with Vista, XP and mac OSX 10.5.2 and no problem
dv9700t -
Booting OS X on your HP????
-
OS X on an HP? Sounds interesting and fun to try. Could you list the procedure followed for installing that on the laptop?
-
talking of OSX + non APPLE branded computer on the forums is not permitted..this thread may get closed. its also illegal to have mac OS on a non APPLE computer.
-
so far nothing yet. at cpu 15%+ the fan is on low, 50%+ the fan is on high. high/low is based on hearing the fan going on and off. all numbers are based on estimates.
-
That seems like a stretch, how is it I can visit the apple web site and buy
it as a stand alone OS, are you stating their version of the "EULA" prohibits the install on a non MAC branded computer? Wouldn't that be like Sony saying I can only use the Sony memory stick in Sony products and nothing else? -
http://images.apple.com/legal/sla/docs/macosx105.pdf
Especially this part...
-
Ouch.
talk about restrictive, that is just as bad as the Microsoft EULA but for
different reasons. Microsoft doesn't allow for you to transfer the license
from one computer to another (OEM), even if that computer breaks and is cost prohibitive to repair. According to their EULA, you need to buy either another computer with Windows preinstalled or the full retail if you build from scratch. You have to buy the full retail even if you have another computer that may have an older version. Gone are the days where the EULA used to allow for multiple installs if both computers were not used at the same time. -

Back on topic, it sounds like this is the belated Intel equivalent of the infamous AMD BIOS fan control update?
-
Is the guy who made the contract with Quanta still working in HP?
-
Ooooops
I now complied to the Apple license and deleted my M*C partition
it was fun so, back to Linux now
I hope Linux on HP is not again the law... -
I'd like to know about this fan control update too - without it, will the new laptops have the same wireless problem as the older ones did?
-
So this BIOS update is only optimizing the fan settings? No performance boost?
-
Ok I went ahead and took the plunge and updated to F.51 bios. Overall its about the same. On battery, the fan is very quiet. On power, it now will run on low all of the time.. will kick in higher with more intensive CPU but its seems to be an improvement. Before, the fan would actually stop at times and then kick on and off. Now it mostly just runs on low which probably keeps the temperature down. This bios does not annoy me anymore then the last one and it probably will help in avoiding heat related failures.
I don't thing this bios changes anything else other then the fan settings. Thats what HP also says on their site: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=ob-59402-1&lc=en&cc=us&lang=en&os=2093&product=3650962&dlc=en -

Just got my dv6700t, HP update wants to replace my F.52 bios with F.51 !!
Of course, I refuse to allow it... stupid laptop
Fan runs very quiet, laptop stays very cool.... -
tried the BIOS, works fine
-
is quickplay direct compatible with this bios ??
anyone tried that ... i mean installation !! -
)
-
My fan is a whole lot quieter now, nice.
-
Does anyone know about F.52? I got is on a new dv9700t shipped around 4/1.
The problem I had with the computer was that the QuickRun volume buttons were crashing FireFox and causing an extended lag on IE, with loss of control of the system until each touch of the QuickRun volume buttons cleared (5 seconds per level of volume change)...very annoying. The resolution was to do System Recovery and reinstall the original OS and settings. Very bad news. -
-
try reinstalling the vista quicklaunch drivers
-
It's interesting that this BIOS version (F.52) doesn't appear on the support and drivers site; last version before F.51 is F.45!?
I am perfectly happy with how my fans run (MUCH quieter than my old ZD7000) and, after following flipfire's undervolting guide, my idling core temp is around 35C. -
I'm having the same problem with the quickplay volume button! Anyone figure this problem out?
-
Can you explain your problem with the QUickPlay Volume buttons?
My solution was to to a System Recovery - returning everything to the original settings. I will be returning or exchanging this computer as I am going to run out of time on the 21-day return policy. If I get a replacement, the 21 days starts all over again.
If anyone else has this issue with the Quick Play Volume buttons...please chime in and let us know what is happening with that! -
Some reported this fix: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=213518
Look at second post: "Take the battery and ac power out, after powering down the laptop, then put them back in. This 'resets' the quickplay buttons, and they should work again. Happened with my 6910p, was absolutely stuck for ideas (but short of re-installing windows as thats too much of a hassle for me), then came across this solution on the HP support forums.
Cheers"
I think once you have the battery out and AC out you want to hit the power button to make sure all the power is discharged from the system.
Good luck! -
Thanks for the link. My problem with QuickPlay was that the volume buttons caused: 1) Firefox to crash, and 2) huge slowdowns in IE - 5 second wait for each level of volume change and loss of control of the computer until the volume display cleared from the screen. This seemed like a software or hardware assignment conflict of some sort.
It was not like this out of the box. Using Windows Vista 64 System Restore to go back to setups prior to my adding new software and deleting some of the included packages did not solve the problem. I tried reverting to several System Restore points. The problem happened soon after I installed Firefox (but I have Firefox on it again and the problem has not arisen).
The only thing that worked for me was HP Recovery Manager to erase everything and start all over again. (I did not try taking the battery out, but it does not seem to fit this situation as the buttons worked, but caused software/hardware confilcts). -
I'm noticing a dramatic reduction in CPU temp after installing this. Only had it on for about 20 minutes so far though. Temps went from mid-40s to low-30s when idle.
-
i installed f.51 and my courser would lock up on the login screen. went back to f.45 and now i have no problems.

what do u mean by lock up
-
the curser would not move for awile then move on its own very chopy.
-
well i reinstalled f.51 from hp site now it works fine
-
-
i got it from hp update for some reason it showed the update twice. i reinstalled it from hp support and drivers and now it works fine.
-
I just upgraded to F.51 from F.45. The most noticeable difference is that the fan always runs on low and smoothly ramps up and down based on system activity.
