So earlier today my Sony died, and this was the second Sony I've had to do that. The first was a model with the 8400m from nVidia that basically cooked itself until crispy. So, I'm done with Sony for the time being, and I was presented with an option at BestBuy (where I bought my newer Sony) for an HP DM3z. Now hardware wise, it doesn't hold a candle.... Athlon Neo vs C2D T6600, ATI HD3200 vs Nvidia G210m... etc.. But what I want to know is, are there any big problems with this model? I know AMD's tend to run hotter, but aside from heat, what do you guys think. BTW, I would be getting the DM3z + a prepaid VISA with the difference pre-loaded on the card. Sony = 850, HP = 450. I'd save a good bit of money and the HP is MUCH more portable. Also, this wouldn't be my power machine, as that role is filled by a Dell Latitude e6400.

What do you guys think? Any DM3z owners opinions? Should I go for a different model HP?

I've heard the chrome trim on the side comes off easily, and that the trackpad sucks. HP trackpads seems to suck across all their models...never heard of a single other brand that has issues with the trackpad, which is so basic a piece of kit that manufacturers should really have perfected them by now.

That's a complaint I've read in multiple places. Could it really be that bad? My Sony had one of the silkiest smooth trackpad's I've ever used, so this should be interesting. I'm going to go in the morning to see this machine, and whatever else HP that they have in-store.

At first use the trackpad is sticky and hard to glide however after you get some oil from your finger (disgusting I know) it is gust as good as anyother trackpad on the part. The buttons are a bit hard to press although eventually I got use to it.

So, I ended up with a DV6z, with a new Quad-Core phenom. I have to say it looks sharp.

The touchpad isn't that bad. It's not the best, but I think reviewers don't give HP enough credit. The dm3 is a great notebook.
