Jayayess1190 Waiting on Intel Cannonlake
-
Looks pretty nice... not sure if I like it more than the dv2000 or not -- need to see in person
-
This thing looks better in real life than in pictures.
The higher pricing is the APJ release price. US prices will be lower a usual
It will be refreshed with Centrino 2 when that is available. Centrino 2 is still about 3-4 months away from general availability. -
looks awesome
-
Interesting. I like the available eSata port.
-
the audio and mic port are not under the trackpad anymore.
-
-
Some minor differences I notice: placement of audio ports, the hinge change, and the mousepad looks like it will now be flush when the lid's closed. Looks like HP definitely listened to the consumer on this update.
I'm just curious why they didn't go with the nVidia 9300/9500 since it's out now. -
A short commercial :
http://youtube.com/watch?v=7hdUCmToiIU
Some promo pics i believe :
http://www.flickr.com/photos/personalagain/
Anyway, what is known :
-256MB 8400GS card (why not the 9XXX card?)
-13.3HD-capable BrightView screen
-Touch sensitve panel, with wireless on/off
-Headphone jack is in the front left
-still has the remote
-no illuminated keyboard
-low-light VGA webcam with flash
-supposedly weighs 2KG
-HDMI
-Altec Lansing speakers
-USB and eSATA combo
-HP 3D DriveGuard
chrixx, so i guess you have seen it? -
It's a sweet looking system. Looks to be a little thicker than the MacBook, but an all around perfect size considering it has a dedicated GPU.
Now if only it shipped with XP or something other than Vista... -
We can probably expect HP's new notebook lineup to look similar to this. Looks interesting, but I don't really know if I like it. I have to see it in person first.
Things I like:
Speakers In Front (No Muffled Sound)
Wireless Switch Is Now Wireless Touch Sensitive Button
Chrome Accents (Like The Ones On Sony's CR Series)
New Imprint (I Don't Like That It's Black Again, They Should Make It Silver)
Security Lock Not On Hinge
13" Screen
Smaller Size
They Got Rid Of The Expansion Port In Place Of Vents
They Used The Special Edition Silver Keyboard instead of the Standard Black
Bottom Portion Of Notebook Is Silver, Not Black Anymore
Things I Don't Like:
Hinge Design (Looks Like It Could Break / Too Small)
Touch Sensitive Buttons Look Weird (Not A Narrow Strip Anymore)
The Power Port Doesn't Light Up Blue, There is A Small LED Next To It.
The Design Looks More Boxy Than Current Design
Headphone Ports Are On The Left
No S-Video Port, (Firewire?)
If I end Up Liking it, I probably won't get it since I just ordered a new notebook. Hopefully the Series After these new ones would be even better -
-
well, still with 2USBs...kinda got used to it last time with my xps 1330...good thing they threw out the expansion port for a bigger air vent...i guess this laptop should run much cooler...
i personally would have liked the inside of the laptop to be black or something like the special edition...i think silver is more prone to wear and tear..would not look nice anymore after 2-3 years...
ollirac, how do you know the power port does not light up anymore?
and the fact that it should be smaller and lighter..is great....
edit:
personally i was hoping for a more powerful graphics card, but of course due to its size hp went for the mediocre 8400 card..which is good in a way as it produces less heat and would take up less batt life...oh ya, i was waiting for illuminated keyboards too..someone mentioned in another thread that hp ordered illuminated keyboards..perhaps the bigger models would see them..anyway, nice laptop -
-
Unfortunately, it's not coming to the US. >_<
-
really? so hp laptops released in asia will not make it to the US? but the pricing was set in USD, maybe it would come, but later on?
-
-
ok thanks chrixx, great to hear...btw, since ur from australia, wanna ask u: if i buy a hp laptop CTO from the US, will hp australia support it if anything goes wrong?
edit: just read thru the manual on hp's site...this thing supports hd-dvd and blue-ray too..and the power port does not light up anymore...there is a LED next to it as previously mentioned...eSATA port built-in..and the optical drive can be removed..just like the thinkpads.... -
If you're getting an HP consumer laptop (Pavillion or Presario), you should check that it comes with international warranty. If it does, then you should be fine. HP Australia has excellent support facilities (by industry standards), with some exception with regards to their tech support call centre. As an indication, I recently had my friend's Presario V3000 bought in HK repaired here, picked up and returned without any case scratches within 5 days.
For business notebooks (HP Compaq lines), I can confidently claim 100% international coverage wherever HP has a presence, including onsite repairs if available.
As HP' services vary depending on the country, I'd advise that you do not base your decision on the horror stories often posted here, which seem to be happening in the US only. -
thanks chrixx...i was pretty concerned about it as i am thinking of asking a friend to pick this up for me in the US - hopefully its available by mid-july...
would be going to melbourne u in july...had a horrific experience with my xps m1330, although support is good...so was just wondering if in case anything goes wrong at all... -

2.) I'm guessing the screen isn't LED :[
3.) Wireless Switch = Touch Sensitive = wo0t !
4.) I kinda liked the headphone jacks centered just for plain asthetical symmetry but I guess that works too. Anybody have any possible guesses why they moved it ?
5.) The expresscard slot looks smaller than the current ones. Is it really or does it just look like it ?
[:EDIT:] Just checked the manual, it is smaller, it doens't have that weird curve to it. It's a straight candybar remote.
6.) I'm sure it doesn't have illumination but i'm crossing my fingers they decide to change it for the US one (probably won't though)
7.) The camera has FLASH ?!?!? I also like how it's streamlined with the lid.
[:EDIT:] There's a camera LIGHT that turns on (probably blue) to show that the webcam is ON but I don't think it's used for flash.
8.) 2KG = ~4.5 Lbs. The lighter, the better
9.) Altec Lansing speakers are now on the outside. I'd prefer them to be on the inside (where they are now) so they reach my ears better. Since I play music while im working and NEVER with the lid down, i dunno how i'd take the new placement.
10.) eSATA = what's that ? (PC Noob, haha) Same goes for that 3D Drive
11.) Love that they got rid of that expansion base that the majority of us don't use and replaced it with a vent for better cooling.
12.) The lid is now mac-like. The whole thing is pretty damn streamlined which is a plus.
13.) I don't know how much i'd like the silver keyboard. Silver is more on the white side of the spectrum making it more prone to get dirtier faster.
14.) How many USB ports are there total ?!
[:EDIT:] There are 2 normal USB ports + 1 USB/eSATA Combo port for a total of 3
15.) Smaller screen = more battery life ?
16.) I wanted a slot-loading drive :[
17.) Is it really not coming to the US ?!
18.) Do people still really use dial-up ?! -
well chrixx...the reason why i want to get it from the US is because it would be much cheaper..the current dv2700t se which i configured - t9300, 2gb, 250gb hdd, lightscribe drive, 8400 nvidia card, bluetooth + 4965 wireless is so much cheaper in the US compared to the aussie price...
spyder,
1. i believe yes the discrete graphics would be optional just like how it is now
2. me too...i dont think so they will throw LED in...BTW, the brightview thingy is also in the current dv2700 right?
4. i would still have loved in the in the middle, would not obstruct my left hand...
5. i downloaded the manual for the remote control...unfortunately there is only an illustration of the back of the remote...looks a bit different and thinner...might be the expresscard 34 type...again, not 100% sure
6. me too
10. http://www.wisegeek.com/what-is-esata.htm
11. have to agree..perhaps they can use other options to connect to a dock..usb?
13. my exact concern....maybe future versions?
14. from the pics posted on the personal again flickr page, ports on this machine :
- power (duh)
- RJ-45
- RJ-11
- 2 USBs, one on the right, the other on the lef
- HDMI
- eSATA
- VGA out
- security slot
15. i doubt its gonna make much of a difference
16. slot-loading..well my old xps 1330 has slot-loading..i had 2 drives replaced..its noisy..once my computer died, they had to open up the whole laptop, remove the drive and unassemble it..too much hassle..just in case ur drive fails someday, or your computer dies..apple's drives are more stable
17. i think i should.. -
As others have said, I'm sure it'll come later.
@Spyder93090: eSATA can be used for external hard drives to make the access rate much faster than USB external hard drives (although many/most have eSATA and USB both). And, yes, a large deal of the country (and other places) don't have broadband available, so 56K is the only real option. Going to integrated graphics isn't really going to make a large difference in the battery life if you're not using applications that drain the graphics card. You'll be fine. -
I'm more inclined to believe that it won't come to N. America as there is a historic precedence. See Compaq B2800 although that's just a rebranded Asus notebook.
-
That was a completely different style of notebook than what Compaq was known for, however. This seems to be a brand extension. I'd bet money it's coming to the U.S. sooner rather than later (or not at all).
-
Hmmm, HP just had to make deciding on a new laptop harder, didn't they ?
Now I'm deciding between a Verve and this bad boy. I hope it really doesn't launch at $1399 base because that's WAAAY over my limit for that amount of improvement. -
-
$1399? That's a damn good deal for everything you're getting here.
-
I posted it a few days a go here but it is wrong info, the link says it will be out in May , no it is already out and there are many configurations not only the one configuration like the engadget posted.
I saw it at a mall and they are will be displayed at Commart 2008 in April or end of this month.
And I am sure this model is designed to compete the SZ or the XPS, since HP had no model competing them directly. -
jusin,
well its still more expensive in malaysia..lets see...a top of the line model (current dv2700 series) would be around 1800+ USD, so still would have saved quite a bit, although now the gap would be lower.
lappyforphotoshop,
nice to hear. u saw it at a mall in thailand i assume? i got in touch with the personalagain guy from youtube, he says that the release date is not fixed yet, but would be pretty soon, he took my email and says will get back to me with more info. -
Well , the site is always making stupid mistakes like this.
I dont trust the site , engadget is an entertaining site but no more than that.
DV2700 is much cheaper and I think the XPS is a much better looking model but my point is this new comer from HP makes the XPS and SZ more affordable.
Then , I will buy a Dell XPS M1330(when I go back to San Diego), I am not a big fan of HP since HP does not let us choose high resolution screen like Dell, but I am out of US now so I have very limited choices here(BKK) and oh well, the HP looked the best compromise, not the true best but it wasn't designed for me for sure(I dont like lappies everybody else has,I love CTOs).
If you are a type of person want to get the most popular model that everybody else has, then the HP DV2700T is a killer deal , well designed , well built and well blanced feature set, but a bit too flashy and boring to me.
So I am thinking of selling it to get an ASUS or a Vostro1400(a grey market stuff), I like a Black laptop.
Also, I disliked the glossy screen(Samsung made, I requested LG LCD but they gave me the Samsung) , I like a Thinkpad type of screen much better.
I asked exchanging it to another DV2761TX with a LG LCD panel or an AUO but they insisted that the LCD is made by HP , no way, everybody knows HP does not make its own LCDs.
In Malaysia , everything is so much over priced , I was shocked how expensive it is there when I last visited there in last month.
Why dont you consider buying it from Singapore?
I may buy a Dell from Singapore since I really love the Vostro1400. -
Also as you are in SE Asia , your computer choices are really limited, and all(besides Compaqs, Acers and cheap Lenovo consumer Y series) are over priced by 25 percent or more.
So be careful buying a computer in SE Asia. -
I know for one that Malaysia and Singapore has a wide selection of models to choose from, so choices are definitely not limited. I have no idea what the market is like in Thailand, but basically you can buy most high end configurations in Malaysia/Singapore without any problems (although they may not be stocked, so will need to be ordered). -
Very nice! It reminds me of the HP 500 series/HP Compaq 6x20s series notebooks, only flashier. It kind of looks like a cross between the older HPs and certain Sony VAIO models.
Looks like it'll compete head-to-head with the Dell XPS M1330. -
So I dont want to get a too ubiquitous PC but there is no other rational choice for me and so stick with a HP or a Compaq.
Well, in Thailand , HPs are a lot cheaper than they are in Malaysia , I know it cause I always go to KL to check their prices.
But I will be buying all computers in US or Japan from September cause they are much cheaper there than in SE Asia. -
And trust me , when it comes to the US, the DV3000 will be much cheaper especially when you are buying it from HP directly.
-
-
I think the DV2700T became a much better deal than this DV3000 since it is much cheaper , though the DV3000 has 256mb of GDDR3 as I confirmed this moring at a mall.
Sorry for many posts here but I am very much interested ni this cutie. -
I'm itching to buy a new lappy. In fact I purchased one a few weeks ago but cancelled it. This new lappy might give me the strength to hold out longer.
I really need to learn to wait atleast a year before buying new ones. -
I don't see what you guys are going on about... when I ordered my dv2500, it was much more expensive than $1,399, and that was less than a year ago! This thing has roughly equivalent specs when you consider the advancement in technology, too.
-
-
Give you some example , I used exchange my USD like this 1 USD to 43baht, now it is like this 1 USD to 30baht.
And even when USD is so cheap they use 1 USD=40 baht kind of conversion rate when they set their product prices.
So the price of laptop is 1339 US in USD but when converted into Thai baht , it is now 54900baht that is almost equal to 2000US. -
So I care about company's recycling policy and HP is the ebst in this area, and I think Toshiba is the close second. -

thanks..nice find, i think it was launched in some chinese country..judging from the chinese characters in windows...anyway, yes laptops are actually expensive in malaysia, there are places where laptops are way more expensive..australia i think is relatively high. the choices here...actually are not that great, dell's and acer's are easy to get, so as sony. hp a little hard. thinkpads are quite rare.
-
I was browsing the US HP website and found a maintanence and service guide. It shows specifications and many other info. It also has a disassemble guide. Just wanted to post it if people want to see. Probably the dv3000 is comming out soon.
HP Pavilion dv3000 Entertainment PC Maintenance and Service Guide
HP dv3000 Manuals -
It's an XPS M1330 wannabe.
It tries the same look, and has similar spec's including the included dedicated video.
I'm wondering if its case is magnesium alloy like the XPS?
