Hi, Ive just bought a HP Envy 15. I think it's first gen because its Graphic adapter is 4830. My problem is that when im playing or doing anything that needs the use of the full power of the pc, it shuts down... Ive been looking for a solution to this problem, trying to update bios and drivers, but bios software cant be downloaded right now. My bios version is F.06, and i saw that there are too many newer versions. U think this could be the problem?? has anyone noticed the same trouble? Can somebody send me the flash bios utility with a version more up to date?
    Thank you!!

PD: Processor is i7 720, dont know if its important...

    gen 1 is over heated,

did you buy it from bestbuy dairy deal?

Over heating is the reason that BB sold them for only 999

Hello there Adrian and welcome to the NBR Forums!

I have the same laptop, and temps are easy to control once you get around some things. First thing to do is clean the laptop from the amount of crapware it comes with. The HP-out-of-the-box guide on the main HP forum is a great start, a clean install would do too.

Secondly is to update the BIOS and drivers, for this I suggest the HP Envy 15 (INTEL) drivers thread. NOTE: we are having some problems (4830 owners) with the ATI 10.3b update for the GPU, but other than that update your machine.

I am running BIOS F19. And I am idling at 50-55 right now with some usage and the Envy on my bed...which is not bad considering the i7 inside. If you want to further drop temps, at idle (as in 0% load) temps can go down to 40C, when on a hard surface and running the fans. (the BIOS F19 seems to be running the fans at lower RPMs therefore slightly higher tmeps)

    Hope this works!

I think HP took off all the BIOS updates from their FTP site for the Envy. I noted that another user mentioned that HP was waiting for MS with an update as he was chatting with HP tech support.

    Here you go
    Code:
    http://files.uploadffs.com/a/8/d4d889e1/sp47375.exe
But let me warn you that updating to F19 will increase heat because it decreases Fan RPM.

Thanks both of u!! Bshaun, u say that f19 will increase heat because decreases fan rpm... but i guess the update will do the pc working more optimized so it shouldnt get high temp... is this ok?
Arent u having problems with your envy with this theme?
What do sugest? To flash or not to flash... that's the question...

What BIOS are you running? I must say I noticed an increased temp, yes, but the fans are quieter now, and it doesnt ramp them up when booting the laptop each time (compared to the old BIOS which would kick the fans at full speed and then calm them). Temps do feel warmer though...

I would say flash it (though I am really waiting for the new ones to be released)

If you want to be on the safe side, I also have the F07.A which are old but quite good ones...I could upload them too if you want an update. :)

Hi again! I've noticed that in Envy 15, right fans work too much more than left ones, i mean, more air is expelled on the right. The hottest part on my pc is the left one... Is that correct on all envy 15, or does it happens only to me? Please envy 15 owners answer that.

Thats completely normal because as far as I remember CPU fans are on left and GPU on right.

Try to monitor your temps with HWMonitor in different situations like idling, minimal use, heavy use etc.

I did it, and the computer shuts down when core temps raises about 80C. I think its not a so high temperature for shutting down... dont u think??
