I just got my first new hp laptop from their factory in china (aparently...?) anyway... The whole thing came smudged up with finger prints and marks on the lcd screen. I used the included cloth to clean up the mouse/keyboard marks pretty well, but the screen has atleast 5-6 clearly visible marks like its a old refurbished screen or something. Most of them wont even clean up with the cloth like they are CAKED on the screen. How could a aparently *new* screen have stuff caked on it already??? huh??? I just paid a grand for this *new* laptop and its got crap all over it? ???
Anyway,
My questions are: Is this normal?
Should I just suck it up and buy a lcd cleaner and hope for the best?
DID YOUR LAPTOP COME WITH FINGER MARKS AND CRAP ON THE LCD???
Is this warrant a return or replacement?
Sorry to sound anal I just figure my laptop would come PERFECT looking. Its rather strange to come so *dirty* in my eyes.. and rather suspicious... those chinese are up to something!

Your laptop shouldn't have anything on it, if I were you I'd call hp and explain what happened, they'll send you a replacement.
-
ugh, that is extremely weird. Mine had a lil strip over both top and the LCD screen I believe....If the screen didn't have a cover, then for sure it was perfectly clean unlike yours.
I'd be pretty upset to be honest, give them a call. You don't sound anal at all, you paid for a new laptop, so you deserve everything looking new and clean. -
Yes, yes call HP. That's your $$.
You don't sound anal -

when i opened up my dv7t to add in another hard drive, i saw black fingerprints all over the inside! it was gross - like someone had their hands dipped in ink and were handling this unit. thank god tho, the exterior came nice and purdy. ;]

Do HP laptops come with a plastic or otherwise cover over the screens??? ALl mine had was some sort of pad between the screen and the keyboard.... no covers.

I called HP they offered to let me refund it or exchange it. They also offered to give me a 75$ refund to *make me happy* if I keep it as-is. lol??? They are trying to pay me to keep it! HAHA
Guess I have to wait another 2 weeks for my laptop. I have until tomarrow morning to call them back and decide to make the friday deadline to get it rebuilt and sent back before christmas hopefully.
I don't want to keep it as is ... even if they offered a 75 refund. Funny
Oh and it took 3 calls before someone could actually help me (They all sounded 100% the same- girls from india!).
First number told me to call tech support (because they can decide if its defective she says...) tech support says they can only repair it and to call another number, that number asks for the whole story again and info, finally says I have the option to return it or exchange it or keep it and get 75 dollars! LOL
Anyway, this sucks. I need this laptop for school and work NOW! They said they wouldnt ship the new one until they get the old one. Maybe they will upgrade the processor or something for free... I will see. -
The laptop comes with a clear plastic sheet stuck to the lid of the laptop that you peel away. On the inside it comes with a foam pad between the screen and keyboard. The screen should be pristine - mine was. Not the slightest mark. If I had stuff caked on my screen I would be very annoyed (understatement). Are you sure it came like that?
Edit, I just realised you didn't say what model of laptop. Probably not all models would come with the plastic sheet on the lid. I know my dv5 did. -
I've had poor experiences with HP laptops as well, but I recently purchased a Lenovo ThinkPad T400, and it's been running great. You should think about sending that HP back and replacing it with a ThinkPad.

I agree with srunni ive had a few HP laptops only the DV1000 special edition really ran well.
Im now a Dell XPS user.
Funny thing my XPS recently arrived and my Dad noticed it is made in Malaysia and not China like my HP laptop so he said well this one should last longer...LOL -
I thought I was the only one having this problem with the Elitebooks! I had 3 that came with dust and fingerprint smudges on the screen and it was sealed with their HP "factory only" tape. The manager told me only their manufacturing plant has that tape and it would be impossible for anyone else to reseal the box so as to prove that its brand new. I found it even more amusing that workers at the plant don't have gloves or work in an antistatic environment for electrostatic sensitive devices.
