    Check it out here.

What really interests me is the 14.1inch consumer model from Compal and the 13.3inch from Flextronics.

I am really interested to see if HP finally figured out how to make "cool" running portable laptops. You know, ones where the hard drive doesn't sit idle at 50C.

I think we can at least expect some great deals as they phase out the current models. Well, unless these aren't meant to replace the current ones but rather fortify the lineup.

That would be nice if the new HPs have a much better cooling system and they use GDDR3 graphic cards instead of using DDR2 for there cosumers line

My DV7 GPU cooked itself.. in HP's defense I did not ever use a laptop coller and it was always in my lap.. thus no vent. for the machine..

My new HDX has a Zalman at all times under it.. and works like a champ..

Now I need a Sager (Clevo) to play with.. upgrade and tinker minus the HP locked out BIOS..

But back to the point I do understand the frustration of a cooked GPU..

Sorry about your and my luck..

    Be well, JW

Actually, the GPU failures aren't HP's fault, they are Nvidia's fault. They used faulty solder points that are destined to fail, regardless of the temperatures they faced. Heck man, I had my GPU underclocked and running on a podium for better cooling and never played any games or anything, and it still died. It IS HP's fault that they won't repair them though...

We'll see what they come out with. The DV4 still has the same HDD heat issues as the DV2xxx series, hopefully they figured out a decent cooling solution.

Well my 8400GS is still alive, and it is overclocked, and i game on it. But i guess each one with his own luck... It did give a few signs of upcoming failure though (at one time the laptop booted with the picture split in 4 garbled parts), but it never gave me any trouble in games yet.

I can always attempt ghetto reflow (aka stick it into the oven and BAKE IT) if it eventually craps out on me. But here's to hoping it doesn't. :)

How long do you think it will take for the new designs to show up? I would guess it could be a few months, but do you think it will be sooner?

hp's HDD is using Hitachi, if I switch to WD or SG, do you guys think that will do a better "cooling" job? at least lower little bit??

(I plan to upgrade my 250 Gb Hitachi to a new WD 320 Gb, if that does cool off my hp dv4t a bit, do you guys think that work??)

Well, the article says that the orders are for August...

So I guess it's fair to say that we should expect them sometime this month or in early September.

    ------------
Regarding the hard drives, you probably won't see more than a 1C difference. I've thrown a Hitachi, WD, and Fujitsu in my DV2500 and they were all basically the same temperature. If you're going to upgrade solely to try to decrease the HDD temps, then I would advise against it as it won't be worth the upgrade. But if you're going to be upgrading for more space anyway then you might as well try a WD or a Seagate.

The graphics cards you speak of are already in use in the HP consumer line. My ATI HD 4650 GPU has 1GB of GDDR3 memory.
