Sorry to say it but HP will be changing the media bay sizes from 12cm to 9.5cm and will also be changing the dock styles so older ones will not work.
The lineup change from 04 to 05 consists of dropping from 10 models to 6 models.
The new models include:
nc6220/nc6230
-14" display, 2 spindle system, Pentium-M processors, 5.3lbs(with optical drive)
nx9600
-17" widescreen display, 2 spindle system, Pentium 4 processors, ATI x600 series graphics with 64 or 128megs dedicated, 9.11lbs
nx6110/nc6120
-15" Display, 2 spindle system, Pentium-M, 6.2lbs
nc8200/nw8200
nc4200/tc4200
-14" display, 2 spindle system (wasn't impressed with the build on this one).
-----------------------------------
New features in this years models:
-Hard drive protection design, different style mount to keep the drive from dieing if the laptop is dropped while on...we'll see how well it works
-Special coating on the cases which are suppose to be anti-scratch and anti-wear to help hold up better
-Wireless is provided by Intel or Broadcom now both makers provide a b/g and an a/b/g interface.
-12cm media bays have been replaced with smaller 9.5cm media bays which should reduce the weight on the laptops by some.
---------------------------------
Other new accessories:
-Travel batter pack, kinda odd thing which plugs into the bottom of the laptops providing dual-batteries to provide extra hours of battery life(8-cel battery)
-basic port replicator.....what it says new design to keep up with the change in the port replicator plugs
-advanced port replicator....slightly smaller than previous version includes 6-usb ports besides the basics and one extra spinde
-a variety a few new style printer stands which arrange from the basic to ones which include power buttons and space for future media bays to be added(kinda odd).
--------------------------------------------
2004 to 2005 model changes
nx9500 --> nx9600
nc8000/nw8000 --> nc8200/nw8200
nc4000/nc4010/tc4000 --> nc4200/tc4200
nx9010/nx9020/nx9030 --> can't remember(1 model tho)
nx6000 --> nx6110
nx5000/nx7010--> can't remember
--------------------------------------------
And most importantly they will be released on 2/1/2005
Enjoy.

I couldn't find anything on HP's site yet on the rest of them yet. -
Thanks for this info zgamer, do you know anything about an updated ZT3000 --> ZT4000?
-
HP didn't mention anything about the ZT4000....they kept to business notebook line however, it wouldn't suprise me if they did release more.
The only link I could find was this one:

this is great info zgamer and those links to the product overviews are great. HP is based in CA but I see you are in WI, so I'm assuming you don't work for the said company correct?
-
Nope, just work for a company which buys equipment from whoever makes what best fits our needs and as a perk sometimes we get to goto preview sessions

Next time you see the HP people ask them when their new Athlon 64 notebooks will be out and what the specs will be. 32-bit CPUs are so last century and all.
-
Hi ZGAMER,
I was just wondering,has HP given up on the 256 meg video cards vs the 128 ones ???
The ZD8000 no longer can be configured with a 256 meg video x600 video card only a 128 ?????
Thanks....shkj -
From the looks of things I would think they are dropping the option because something else is comming out which will have it.
I didn't see anything on the Athlon 64 notebooks when I was there nor mention of it as they seem content for the business world for intel's.....the R3000 series is due for replacement tho even though it has decent processor support the machine is showing it's age in terms of weight and graphics capabilities.
They are planning on rolling out a new Athlon 64 desktop come in Feb. which may or may not be the time of some other series offering new Athlons....(I'm waiting on the new notebook myself).
From the presentation HP seems a little wary about AMD processors as they have a model here and there which are but more for testing the potential market but until there is a large enough demand for them I doubt they would be offering much....hopefully they won't wait too long before releaseing new Athlon 64 notebooks. -

Good to know, thanks.

Hey All,
Just checked the HP website and you now again can order the ZD8000 & the x6000 with a 256 meg x600 ATI video card !!!!!!!!!
Just wish they would mak up their minds keeps changing every day !!!!
shkj -
and your sources?
i think this is a misinformation !
the nc4xxx series will have a 12" display
trust me![8D] -
All info about the zt4000 has been removed from the HP website, anyone know whats going on?
-
I would imagine that HP removed the information after all of the word out all over the web about a product they haven't released yet. It doesn't seem to me like they intentionally pre-release the support page for their products. I'd imagine it was some kind of error.
The funny thing is, the battery for the V2000/DV1000 notebooks has always said it was compatible with the V4000/ZT4000 computers. Even after the specs were changed to show compatability for the new ZE2000/M2000, they left the V4000/ZT4000's on the compatability list. My questions is why do they still have unreleased notebooks on the list? It would be really easy to correct the error. -
mmeier,
there are smaller display options on some them.
My source is from the horses mouth. As for who exactly I will not tell as I would loose my source in the future. -

the only true tablet was the tc1100 which they are still planning on keeping. Sorry about the media bay, they are the same width but they are thinner....I held one of the current dvd-roms vs one of the new ones and it's about 2/3's the weight of the current ones......12mm vs 9.5mm thick. They will be offering a sub-notebook, I can't remember which model...I think it was the nc4200 tho.
-
the tc4200 is one of 2 new tablets.
On February 2, HP plans to introduce two new Tablet PCs in its business notebook lineup. One of the devices will be the company's first convertible notebook, a machine that resembles a traditional notebook but that has a screen that swivels around to support pen-based computing. The device will cost just over $2000, Mazzantini said

This posting doesnt take into account the various references to a nx7100 on hp's site. It lists as using the same battery as the 8200 series and contains a Mobility Radeon9700 according to the drivers page for it. This could be a replacement for the 7010.
-
Well, I guess we'll find out tommorow then.
-
Hi everyone,
I've been following this topic from the start, I was wondering if any1 as info on what might be the next thin & light chez compaq (widescreen too). onfi on the zt4000 and the v4000 seem to come and go so i'm not sure if they exist. Also for those who got a close look at the new systems, my most important question is: anyone knows if we are going to get the mobility x700 in one of those notebooks?
Thanks again to all the news bringers...
edit: oh and r they actually coming out tomorrow? -

ok, I really don't understand HP's strategy right now, they have yet to officially announce any sonoma Notebook [:0]. Dell just realeased 3 new models. I'm thinking may be the new HP's are so bad that they don't want to release them or something. And acer is the only one so fat that has a notebook with the mobility X700.
Something's wrong here, I think i'm might jump off the HP boat this time, i'm kinda disappointed. -

The nc8230 look fine but the best they can put with these new guys is an x600 radeon? acer's proposing x700 with their new 8100 series, I'm very disapointed at this point with HP, and the best configs still have a 'coming soon' status.

Like the dell notebooks, they dont have express card / SATA and still also use the old AC97 sound and x600 gpu. I've got a feeling that until a new home laptop shows up with dell/hp or any other major company for that matter, there will be a mix of old and new technology in these notebooks.
-
It is a shame you can not find buisness notebook there!

I really like the new NC6120/NX6110 models. Only 1.2" height and cheaper than their original models NX5000.
Anybody know where to see their photos? -
Go to http://www.hp.com or http://www.hpshopping.com See what you can find.
Liquid620 - HP.Pavilion.ZT3340US.Widescreen -
the NX9000 series specs and looks seem to be identical with the x6000 but it's black
-
Chalk it up to HP giving you a lot of options. I know that my battery for my notebook zt3340us also fits other nx's or nc's and it looks similar to other's done by HP.
Liquid620 - HP.Pavilion.ZT3340US.Widescreen -
I'm interested in the nx6110, but you really can't configure any of them even though there is an option to do so. I tried a few different versions and none gave the option to upgrade to SXGA for example. So what is the point of having something as an upgrade that cannot actually be selected anywhere??? I think I'm done wasting my time with HP.
-
Anybody knows when will these new released notebooks available at the internet dealers? I am ready to by NC6120!
-
after giving it some thoughts, that nc8230 does not look so bad, i bet hp went with the x600 for battery life purposes.
but the delivery date, march.. i mean WTF -
does the DELL D810 have a express card slot ?
and the others ? D610, D410 ?????
[]
the new HP have no DDR2 system memory ??
right !?
-
The nc8230 does have DDR2 memory, i haven't checked the psecs of the rest though.
-
here are a couple reviews of the nc8230:
http://www.desktoppipeline.com/news/59300604

http://reviews.cnet.com/HP_Compaq_nc8230/4505-3121_7-31273675.html
8230 is lookin' pretty nice compared to the acer 8100, especially with its 4+ hour (vs. acer's 2+ hour) battery life.
anyone hear anything about when these are going to be configurable on hp's site and/or when they might release a (cheaper) home version with brightview? -
Thanks for the links. I have been trying to get a good look at this machine, but have been unable to find any high res pictures.
these are pretty good though.
I can't wait. I am ordering as soon as is available. I was originally going for the Dell i6000, but it got rough reviews, too big and bulky and without ATI card?? D810 is good, but too big also.
-
All black? How can I feel the new released NC8200/6120/6110 looks like IBM thinkpad? Shame
