I bought a Gateway at Costco, and did not like it at all. Used it for about a month, and now i Just got a new Hp from hp.com.
I need to return my gateway to Costco.
What is the best way for me to delete all my files on there? I dont want anyone having access?

    Any tips?
    Thanks!

Use your installation CD (your recovery disc) and completely do a reinstall of Windows XP/Vista, whichever you have.

Make sure you transfer all your important files first. The reinstall of the operating system will completely wipe your system.

Well, sometimes even formatting a drive doesn't mean the files will be completely erased. If someone has enough knowledge, they could look/find any file that hasn't been overwritten.

There is drive wiping software out there, but I can't make a recommendation. Google 'drive wipe software' or something to that effect.

You could try asking Costco if they wipe the drives before they do whatever it is they do with them after you return it.

use the gateway factory restore cds to restore it to orignal settings. it'll wipe out everything you put on there.
