Ohhh ic, you dont need any drivers for DVD drive, Windows XP detected the drive. However, you will need some sort of software that allows you burn DVD, like Nero.

RAM is installed on the bottom of the laptop and you have to open it up. With the recovery disks, basically the OS when first booted up should inform you to burn the Recovery DVD's since you have a DVD burner. If I were you try to call HP and ask them for the driver disks and boot disks so then there wont be a problem of burning so many DVD's

Thing is when you fresh reinstall with the recovery disks you burn, they have all the bloatware and unwanted programs. The disks from HP I believe dont have them but im not sure.

thats weird, i own a v2000z and they gave me two disc, one is the actual windows xp recover disk, which is just like a regular windows xp disc. and a DVD full of drivers and software. if you dont want all the Hp crapware, you dont have to install it.

HP doesnt offer the XP disks anymore except with Intel based laptops( I dont know why?) To cut back on costs, they force you instead now to burn DVD's off the recovery partition and use that in case of something going wrong.
