    Dear Forum,

I once again am relying in your expertise for HP Products.
I will try to be brief and concise…

A work colleague of mine has just acquired the following HP Envy dv6-7301ss (Spain model). I told him that I would search for some additional information regarding the installation, OS to install, Bloatware removal…etc…

Now, I´ve been myself looking up for relevant information on HP itself, and I can see that the biggest “issue” with this laptop could be the W8 update…hence, here are my questions…

    1. The operating system comes pre-installed, but is it W7 or W8 it comes with?
If you follow this HP link you can read on the right (Alerts : Windows 8 update hangs at 13%... :( )

    2. Is it recommendable then to update to Win 8 ? Or should he rather stay away from it?

    3. It has an Intel Core i7-3630QM, for drivers and stuff is the following link the correct one ? -> http://forum.notebookreview.com/hp-...ivers-hp-envy-15-3xxx-envy-17-3xxx-intel.html

    4. I will also point him to the HP Out Box Guide, so that he really gets his baby running smoothly.

I can´t think about anything else for him, the only thing that worries me is the Pre-Installed System and the upgrade to W8.

Thank you all for reading this and of course I am looking forward to any comment,
    Kind regards,
    Ken

    1) Are you sure it comes with Windows 7 and not Windows 8? According to the HP site it comes with Windows 8 installed for that particular SKU so I would assume that's the case.

    2) Either way, if you want to update to Windows 8 it won't be a problem installing it, the problem they mention is with a Windows update that will come later. You'll have to take those steps outlined to get the Windows 8 update pack to install. What you may want to do, assuming Windows 7 is on there now, is just wait until this Autumn for the Windows 8.1 release that will fix a bunch of bugs in Windows 8 and also bring back the Start bar and boot to desktop option that so many people miss.

    3) Not sure, I'd just the HP site link here to get drivers: Software & Driver Downloads HP ENVY dv6-7305se Notebook PC | HP® Support

    4) Great idea, also recommend doing the minimal system install option that HP offers, see this video:

    Good luck Ken!
