I would think so. Did you burn your recovery discs yourself or did they come with the computer? Or are they backup discs? Like you would use to restore Windows to a particular point?

Yes, you can restore the system back to factory state using the recovery DVD's but it wont restore your files or any programs you installed yourself on the system.

The restore DVD's dont care about replacing the hard disk but usually are a concern only if the motherboard gets replaced.

Then you should be good. Just remember, any software you have installed or files you had on the old drive will not be there. It will be just like it was when you got it from the 'factory'.

Sometimes it will install and sometimes not. When I burned my recovery discs and try to put it in a new drive the installation would not continue. If ever you change from the original specs such as RAM or HDD the installation will detect this and will not install. This is also true if you order backup discs from HP. What I would recommend is to clone the original drive to the new one instead.
