So this thread is about a Gateway laptop not an HP, but because most of us are owners of Hp's then I would guess we have more up top then the rest of our counterparts. Well about two months ago the laptop was dropped and the metal plug that is inserted into the laptop broke off of the cord and was stuck in the laptop. I took it to Bestbuy to get repaired. Got it back. They didn't give me a new cord...wtf. Well I ordered a whole new cord & adapter. I charged it...or so I thought I was. It barely charged the battery. Ok well I ordered a new battery from Bestbuy. I got the battery and I charged it till it was full. Took it off. Drained it. Then it hasn't charged since. I still have warranty w/ Bestbuy so if I have to get it repaired I will. I have tried turning it off while plugged in but it doesn't charge. I want to find out if I can do something from home or if I need to give it the the guys in Blue. I really don't due to the fact that they take about 2 weeks and this is my girlfriends school pc. Any response is greatly appreciated.

It sounds like a power supply problem. I say this because you bought a new battery and it only charged once and won't charge again. It is a very low chance that the both batteries are bad, but you can always return the battery, get a new one and see what happens. It almost sounds like the power supply damaged the battery after the one charge. You are probably going to have to give it to them to fix, and tell them the problems you are having.
For future reference, don't buy BestBuy's warranty and here's why:
First off it takes the Geed Squad a little bit of time to even start working on the laptop. If it is a hardware problem the only thing they do is sent it to the manufacturer for repair. Basically they are the middle man and that's why it takes so long for people to get their computers repaired when they buy the warranty through BestBuy and not the actual manufacturer. The only thing the Geek Squad can fix is if its a software problem.
Also, just because you buy the computer from BestBuy doesn't mean you have to go with their warranty, you can still order a warranty from the manufacturer. I always recommend doing this because it cuts down on the time it takes to repair your computer. -
