Hello everyone. I've been in the market for a new laptop for awhile. I posted in the What should I buy? forum

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/wha...nd-machine-quality-build-screen-priority.html

So I originally wanted a 15 inch with a good screen and decent build quality. Not a gaming machine, but one that can do everything else decently and play games. The envy 17 is a little big, but price is always the limiting factor. If there is a 30% coupon that still works, is there any reason I shouldn't get the envy 17.

Here is what I'm looking at right now:

XPS 15 has a good screen and sound, and is more portable.

Envy 17 seems bigger which sucks, but it looks like I'll get more computer for my money.

I was gonna pull the trigger on the np8130 but I've decided that I want a multimedia machine so sound, and connecting to an external TV or monitor is also important.

So between these three machines, which one do you think I shuld get? I really think I might be happy with the Envy 17 as I am willing to sacrifice some size for performance, because the envy will probably last another year or so over the xps 15.

So, just to recap. Any reason I should go with the xps 15 over the envy 17? I think my multimedia experience overall will be better with the envy but I await the expert advice.

    Thank you for your time.

There's a 30% coupon still around? I thought that expired.

I have the Envy 17 (non-3D) and also the Studio XPS 1645. The screen on the XPS is the RGBLED and it's beautiful. The Envy 1080 screen can't hold a candle to it. I've heard the 3D display is better, though.

Also, the speakers on the XPS is much better. The Beats Audio is nice but only with external speakers.

The Envy has the capacity for two drives, so I've put a 120 GB SSD in there along with the 500 GB mechanical drive that it came with, for 620 GB total. The XPS can't handle two drives so if you want the speed of a SSD you would have to settle for a much smaller drive, the 256 GB $500-600!

    Good luck!
