I am new to all this laptop stuff. Just bought a new HP dv2500t & when I turned it on, I have all these BS programs @ start-up & on my screen, such as Vonage, AOL, Easy Internet (what is that?), etc. What can I delete or what do u suggest I keep? I am just using the computer to burn music DVDs, photos & search the Internet. How do I find out what all that junk on my screen is & how do I remove it when I cant see it on the uninstall file? Do I need to call an IT guy to come over & clean up all this garbage? Anyone in north NJ?

Would it be possible if you could post the list of all the installed programs along with the company names located in 'Add/Remove Programs'/'Programs and Features' in Control Panel.

From there I can tell you which is probably best to remove.

I will try to do that this weekend.
I saw an AOL icon, but nothing in the uniinstall section. I will list whatever icons i see on my desktop, as well. What is CCleaner? I am new to all this computer stuff, sorry.

CCleaner is a program that removes remnants of uninstalled programs. Like if you uninstall programs they usually leave registry entries and dll files and if you run CCleaner it will remove those. Plus it removes temporary files that accumulate in the system.

why don't you just do a clean install of Vista or whatever OS your running. The instructions are on a sticky on the first page of the Hp and Compaq forum.
