Hey guys, i recently bought the dv6tqe, and im pretty happy with it, its a nice machine. Everything has been smooth, the graphics has been working perfectly for my needs, however there if one little thing thats bothering me.
I use the program truecrypt to mount several encrypted files ive created and when i try to actually mount it my screen blacks out for a sec then i get the bluescreen of death....and im basically forced to turn off and restar my computer. Twice it actually made me restore the computer to an earlier restore point because windows wouldnt start normally.... Id say this occurs to me more than 50% of the time I use truecrypt. At first i had installed the actual program and it would crash about 9 out of 10 times, however after looking up the program and reading up on several forums about how it had supposedly been fixed, i decided to use the portable version because someone suggested it on a forum. So i uninstalled it and just extracted the files and ran it in "portable mode". This definitely helped and i thought the problem was fixed because i was able to successfully mount files twice in a row, but then on the third and fourth time it crashed my compter and i got the BSOD again. So now it tends to work sometimes and others it crashes, like i said its at about more than 50% crashing.
So how can i fix this issue? And how come others with windows 7 dont experience this problem? or at least not everyone with windows 7? if it was a windows 7 issue wouldnt it happen to everyone ? is this a dv6t issue?
any advice would help, thanks!

I 'm running Truecrypt on my dv7tqe (i7-2720qm) with no problems so far.
Can you provide us some additional info about your setup:
What version of TC are you running?
Which cpu is in your dv6?
Is "Accelerate AES encryption ..." enabled in TC.
Were the TC containers created on the dv6 or a different pc?
If created on another pc, what TC version was used to create them?
What encryption algorithms are being used?
Edit: By any chance, could the last entry in this provide some help - http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/office2010/thread/aa3f26b0-0b79-4fef-b3c6-16da40c4f9de -
Im running version 7.0a of TC
I have the 2630qm in my dv6tqe
i checked for accelerate aes encryption but couldn't find it anywhere as an option, maybe its because im running the portable version as i seem to have a better success rate with it. however the problem doesn't happen when it encrypt containers, only when i mount them.
I created the TC containers on a different computer, however the version of TC used was the same (7.0a)
The encryption algorithm used was just regular aes.
as for the link you provided i had seen it already and i cant just uninstall the application virtualization portion only because i dont see when i try to uninstall it by component so i dont know if that will help and i believed it hapened to me before i even downloaded microsoft office 2010 so it may be unrelated.
i do however have nod32 as my antivirus and supposedly theres a clash between the two programs so that may be it....but im not too sure if i attempted to mount a file before i got nod32 or not. Im following a lead i got from the eset forums im just waiting on a mod to provide me with some modified file "eamonm, sys"
you can read about it here: Eset 4.2.64 BSOD with Truecrypt - Page 2 - Wilders Security Forums
any ideas? anyone else having this problem? and if i mount files and occasionally get the bsod, could that be harmful to my computer? i dont want to mess it up...and my encrypted container is in my external hd, could it mess up my exHD or the encrypted file itself? -
The "accelerate" option can be found under "Settings-Preferences-More Settings (button at lower left)-Performance" in both the installed and portable TC versions. I doublt if this is the problem, but since the 2630qm doesn't support accelerated encryption it couldn't hurt to manually disable it and run some test mounts.
There certainly seems to be some issues with nod32 that, from looking at the TC forums, seem to go back awhile. Have you tried stopping the nod32 service(s) (ie, realtime scanning) before mounting the containers?
This may be grasphing at straws, but by any chance have you repartitioned your hard drive other than directly with Windows 7. I ask because many, if not most, current standalone partition apps do not correctly support the newer partition/sector/cluster alignment rules required by newer large hard drives (like the Hitachi that was in my dv7). If one of these has been used, another alignment tool needs to be run in order the properly align things. Failing this, I would think that improper "alignment" might cause TC to have problems opening the container file.
As for possible harm: Definitely, a crash could damage the container file if it was being written to at the instant of the crash. As for the exHD, it wouldn't damage the drive itself but could foul up the file structure (possibly resulting in lost files or file clusters) if a "write" was in progress at the instant of the crash. [You may want to run an error check on the drive.] While I wouldn't think TC does any "writes" at the time of mounting a container, I don't know for sure. As for the computer itself, I would not expect anything other than the foregoing hard drive issues, but I guess there could be something I'm overlooking.
