Just bought a new dv8100us from Circuit City as an open box item for $889.00 after $200.00 M.I.R.!!

The old Dell was starting to have some issues, I saw this, and figured it was too good to pass up, since for me, the 17" screen is too good to pass up - I do autocad.

    dv8110us
    ML-32 w/512kb L2
    512MB memory
    80 GB HD
    b/g wireless
    DVD+/- RW

Time to change the signature!!! :hp: :amd64: :glossy: :D

More info when I have a few hours time to play with my new beast!!

One question, though - if I upgrade to XP Pro, will I run into any issues with some proprietary HP software?

Congrat on the new lappy. I'm sure you'll love it (if you're not a gamer or not planing to run intensive 3Ds on it).
Did you only get one HDD? If so, you can add any size/capacity you like later. I hope it comes with a rail/caddy for mounting add'l HDD later.
That's one thing I really like about the dv8000. Enjoy you new toy......
    :hp: I'm loving it..... :D

Not at all, I've upgraded OS on a few HP/Compaqs with no conflicts whatsoever, they have a very good and accessible driver and support software section to their site.

Just type in your model number, or model family, and it will guide you to all the software recommended for your hardware and specific OS.

There's surely to be nonessential drivers or software you may choose not to install (for my particular setup I chose not to install client management, WinDVD, and such), though I've never ran into any bloatware within these sections.

    Congrats on your purchase!!

Congratulations on the new laptop. Tell us how it performs, and how its going. I want a DV8000z! Just another $206.78 - $216.78 more, plus $50 to cover for price before mail in rebate. This is the really hard part, where you're close, but not there. Saving up lunch money is really slow too. I'll see if I can borrow from my brother or sister. If I have to, I'll lure them in with interest.
