    Hello,
I have recently bought my first notebook, an HP dv6 with amd turion m500, 4gb of ram and an HD 4650 1 gb.
    I have some questions:
_Which of the hp applications can be deleted without causing drivers issues etc?
_ What programs should i download for temperature monitoring?

Im sorry if these are noob questions but its the first laptop i have ever owned.
    Thanks in advance.

well none of hp applications are going to cause any driver issue u can go on and delete all of them.but do not delete anything related to system files or windows.and also make ur recovery disks for any issues later.
    enjoy ur new dv6

For temp monitoring use either CoreTemp or Real Temp. Some people prefer one, some prefer the other.

hwmonitor is pretty good to monitor temps all around - gpu, hard drives, cpu cores, etc. it's not as feature-rich as other apps but it gets the job done.

Thank you for the answers guys.
I have downloaded and run hwmonitor, which btw is the only one thats working...(coretemp and realtemp dont work) and it shows the cpu temperature at 60°C in idle ( actually 1 download, skype msn and fireforx opened )..is 60°C normal? Also i have noticed that in idle the system is using 1.6/4 gb of ram...normal?

60c is normal but a little on the high side... are you running the laptop on a flat desk, with the exhaust fan clear of any obstruction? are/were you gaming or did you exit out of a game when you saw the 60C reading?

as for the 1.6 gb used at boot up, yeah, that sounds about right.

I have just tried playing a videogame--and at full load the cpu goes up to like 85°C...what do you think?

wow.... seems pretty high, in my opinion...... mine maxes out at about 73C but that's the highest i've ever seen it....

laptops nowadays will turn off automatically in case the temp gets too high. maybe im wrong, but 85C seems awfully high to me. lets see what others have to say. then again, you have an amd processor and those are known to run way hotter than intel chips.

it would be nice if another dv6/amd owner chimed in with their experience.

I have been lurking some forums and it seems that heating is a common issue on the dv6 laptops (especially the AMD ones). Some people claim that their cpu at full load is reaching between 80 and 90 with a coolerpad underneath!!!
Btw i am running my laptop on a flat desk.

Yes, those AMD's are dunning warm. Your Turion II is newer, but seems to be having the same "behavior".

Learn how to use your power saving profiles, use a laptop cooler when you game if you do, and use K10Stat to undervolt.

I contacted HP on that and they basically sent me the links to Thermal specs for Turion CPUs on AMD webpage,,,old news, it says 100 Deg C Tdie MAX.
They'll take that for gospel and claim to no end that those high temps (70 to 90 deg C) are normal if you game of load the cpu to the max.
So I gave up. They offer me to send it in and check it, but I strongly think they WON'T do anything to it.

Thank you very much for your answer. I guess i will have to deal with these kind of high temperatures as long as they are in the "normal" amd range :p.
