    I have a month old DV9774ca laptop. Vista 32bit SP1.
It works excellent on my Sony HDTV via HDMI using Media Player Classic (I installed K-Lite Mega pack).
But....on the tiny remote that came with it the Rew or Skip-back and the FF, skip-forward, do not work. I tried it with using Media Player 11 and Media Center and the same thing.
On the other hand the Play/Pause works, and stuff like the screen button works (monitor or TV), Mute and volume Up and Down work on the remote.

Anyhow, I can't find any new drivers for this thing at HP. I see in Device Manager that its Bluetooth.
What is up?, if you know.

Its useless if it won't rewind from the remote.

What other choices do I have as far as remotes go, I use this thing like a DVD player for all sorts of stuff. Saves burning to DVD-RW first.

What other remotes can I buy? Since its Bluetooth I gather its not even imaginable to try use any remotes I have laying around for TVs or cable box or VCR or DVD players to use on the HP laptop!

    Thanks :)

I thought in Device Manager it said "Bluetooth Remote"....now I look again and also it says "HP Remote Control HID Device"... so I guess your right, but I'd love to get it working right. Is it normal for FF and REW and Skip back and Forward not to work?

the mini mote is a IR device. it uses infrared reception. the little dot next to the mic input slot. the reason the Rewind, FF, and skip doesnt work is because the video you are watching doesnt support rewind and FF. the skip doesnt work because it doesnt have chapters(section). use a retail dvd movie and those option will work.

i think netkiller might be right, FF and rewind doesnt work for winamp either unless its a DVD. The actual file needs to support it

Wait actually it does, but i have to use the remotes left/right arrow keys and it only works for winamp mp3's

I'm back. This is in Windows Media Player. It used to work. I am watching Divx avi stuff and have used it a lot with Divx since new a month ago. I put the SP1 update manually myself a little over a week ago and now I just realise the Rew does not work, and FF too. Other functions seem ok. I have no idea when it would have stopped working properly. I'll have to reinstall or update drivers if they are older anyhow.

No wait a minute. I just realised I used to use Media Center for a couple weeks and the actual Skip forward and skip back were rewinding and fast forwarding for me in there. I just went and looked and it still does , its now in Media Player I have been using a lot more now that it doesn't rew and FF at all.

Sorry for the confusion. Not enough sleep and too many other things going on round here to keep up.

i was still miffed they don't work right with Media Player.

Have you tried VLC or MPlayer for video, or foobar2000 for audio? They might work - in that case, it's an issue of the software not having that feature, instead of a lack of support in the driver.

The fast forward and skip chapter on the remote works for winamp and VLC player. You have to assign the buttons though, it's real simple. Enable global hot keys in winamp. Assign buttons.

For VLC, go to preferences and look at hotkey settings under interfaces. Check the box that says 'alt' and 'shift' and 'f' to assign the search forward button. 'b' for back. Assign other buttons to your liking. The remote only works when the player is in full screen.
