    Good day all,
After much research, and review reading, I have finally decided that my next laptop will be the HP dv6700t. I just ordered it today via HP online, should be built by February 6th. I just had some questions for all you dv6700t owners: how do you like your computer, and how long have you owned it ? I got mine loaded out (3GB DDR2 System Memory, 250GB 5400RPM, Intel Pentium 2 duo processor T5450, fingerprint scanner, etc. etc.) and I can't wait to get it ! I've owed two laptops in the past, a Toshiba Satellite 1905 series (which lasted 6 years) and I just bought a Dell Inspiron for my parents a few weeks ago. I just wanted something that would last me awhile, has a lot of memory, is fast, and looks good. My girlfriend has the DV2000 (the smaller 14.1 inch screen version), and I loved the design, so decided to go with the larger one. My folks also have a Pavilion PC that's 10 years old running windows 98, and still is running everyday, without a hard-drive failure (knock on wood). So, this factor alone was a major one in determining getting an HP. So, anyone please if you have anything to add, please do so. This is also my first time ordering via. a website before (where they have to build the computer) I usually just go to best buy, or the like and buy them. Do you find that HP's estimated dates are accurate?

Sorry for so many questions and the long post, I just can't wait to get my new laptop ! Before I bought this computer, I also looked at the T61, and the Dell M1530. I've read every review about all three laptops several times before buying the HP, so I hope I made the right choice :) (That, and compared to the Dell and IBM, they were $300 - $500 more then the HP, which I got for $1,027 including taxes, and shipping :) )
I hope I will like this as much, if not better then the current Inspiron 1521 that I'm using ;)
    Mike

Hey great to hear. I have an HP dv6233se and it's lasted me quite a while without any probs. I did send it to HP repair for a quick repair on the motherboard which caused the entire case to heat up like crazy. When I got it back, the problem was fixed except it came back with scratches on the screen. So HP after several times of sending it in for repair finally decided on just sending me a replacement.

I'm getting a dv6700t also and should be coming here tomorrow or Wednesday. When are you getting yours? I will tell you that the build isn't as good as the DELL which is tougher but the design is a lot nicer. I have the white edition right now but will be getting a black one soon as the replacement.

I have almost identical specs with you. I'll let you know what I get it how it is.

    Intel C2D T7500 @ 2.2Ghz
    2gb DDR2 with 4gb DDR2 already @ home from newegg.com
    256mb Nvidia GeForce 8400m gs
    HD-DVD rom
    250gb HD
    Webcam+Fingerprint+Mic
    12-cell battery
    Intel Pro/Wireless 4965 agn + bluetooth

Let me know about your experience or any probs.

very happy with my one month old DV 6700 lots of tweaking to do with vista..and it vista takes some time getting used to. My delivery was a day or two before schedule but I live in a metro (NYC) area.
You can can have fun tracking it from Shanghai China where it is built, through Anchorage AK, to your door.
Consider a clean install (orev's steps are in the HP forum)

Glad to hear you guys are happy with yours. My ship date (well, it says it will be built by) Feb. 6th, so I assume that it will ship out that day, or the next. My dell has windows Vista, and, after using Windows XP for years, as well as windows 98 before that, windows 3.1, etc. I must say I enjoy Vista. There is some getting used to, but overall, I think its a good upgrade from XP. Laptops have come a long way since my last Toshiba, and hope that my HP will bring years of fun :) As for Dell, I was almost 100% going to get the M1530, but almost everyone here in the Dell forum has returned their laptop due to screen issues (or has had the screen replaced more than once). Seems to me that Dell has a serious issue with the Samsung screen quality in the new M series. So, I figured instead of taking a crap shoot with getting a quality screen in a $1500 laptop, I figured I would just buy the HP. Far fewer complaints about the HP so, we'll see what happens.

Sorry to piggyback on this thread; my dv6700t is gonna be shipped tomorrow, but I only got 2GB of RAM. I'm thinking of upgrading to 3GB (Vista 32-bits) but I'm not sure if I should do it. I mean, I don't play games but I do run several applications at once like Photoshop, Acrobat, Office and several programs like that; I bought the laptop as a work desktop replacement. Do you guys think I should upgrade, and if so, what kind of RAM should I buy? I'm a total idiot about these things. Thanks.

Exactly the same as my order. Should have it by monday/tuesday next week!

Is there a step by step on clean installing Vista??

    Also list of necessary drivers??

I am scared about doing that on a brand new laptop.....i do have the list of tweaks that need to be done

Take the time to make your first step to burn the recovery CD's. This way you are covered to restore your new lappy as if you just got it from the factory.
Then check out Orev's step by step guide to a clean install..see the sticky at the top of this HP Forum. It gives details where to find drivers, etc. its pretty complete.
If anything goes wrong, well then you have your recovery disks you made in step 1...nothing to be scared of.

Well, just as an update, my HP dv6700t came in the mail a few days ago. I found it strange that the Fed. Ex driver just left it laying on the front step, even though the tracking number online said it was a signature upon delivery. Oh well, I love the computer, very nice indeed. The only flaw (compared to the Dell Inspiron 1521) is the keyboard. The HP keyboard feels a little more "flimsey" than the Dell keyboard. Other than that small nit-pick, this computer is very nice. I hope it will last me for several years to come.

Yes I agree about feeling a little more "flimsey" then the dell. But after 2 months of use. I kind of like the feeking of the keyboard now. Don't ask me why. But It just seems I can type better on this keyboard. I'm a bad typist to start with. So the HP keyboard seems to have helped me with my bad typing skills.

hey i just got mine a week and a half ago, already a problem though, the quickplay is acting up, when ever i use it to change volume up or down with other windows or programs open everything freezes up, was wondering if anyone else had same problem, called hp and they couldnt figure it out, the only way around that was to uninstall it but i would like to use it, without any problems, if anyone has a better fix help me out, other wise im jut gonna have to get it replaced.

Please don't double post your question. I responded in the other thread where you asked the same question.

I am a new soon to be DV6700T owner as well. I ordered my custom notebook on July 3, the estimated built was July 16, but it was shipped today. I paid for two business day shipping, but with the custom clearance, I'm not certain when I will receive it. Nonetheless, I am happy to be an owner of such a machine. My first notebook was a Compaq M2000, so this is a much needed upgrade.
