Please be gentle. I bought a pavilion zv5000 and I have read the posts about it. 1> what is the z or t letter that some people put after the 5000 and how do i know what mine is?2. I spend a lot of time lying down. I put the notebook on a cookie sheet so the vents won't get plugged but is it ok if I use it at a 45 degree tilt on my legs? 3. The color keeps resetting to low in the settings box when I tun it off. Is there a way to KEEP it at 32? 4. Sometimes tings seem to freeze for a few long seconds while I am multitasking. Is this just my user impatience? The scroll pad goes haywire ocassionally and the page goes on a rogue scroll or ,on the net, goes back to previous pages. I'm hoping its just my novice style.

z is AMD Athlon (good), t is Intel Pentium 4 (bad/hot).
The 45 degree tilt should be OK. I wouldn't try to play CDs at that angle though.
Freezing... might be something to do with the hard drive. If your power management settings allow the drive to go into sleep mode, disable that. There could be some bad sectors on the HD causing problems too though that's unlikely. Figure out who made the drive and get the diagnostic tool off their website if you want to look into that. Or you could just be low on RAM and Windows is swapping lots of stuff out to disc.
Dunno about the color settings thing, but you might check for newer video drivers on the HP support page for your notebook. There's a fairly recent (and major) update for the z series ones.

It the cursor goes crazy occasionally, you're probably brushing it. The touch pad isn't pressure sensitive. I've read it's capacitive, so any touch by your hand, however slight, will move the cursor.

    Just a suggestion.

    Welcome to the forum!

Thank you Russ. I love my new computer. Now about resolution. I;ve read about it but I must have a brain block. Is there a way I can make it better than 1280 by 800? Would that make the screen...denser? brighter? crisper. How do I know what to use?
