So. i just got arround to testing the built in 3G modem in my laptop.
I took the battery out, put in my T-mobile pay as you go simcard.
Booted up the laptop.
everything seemed snappy and fast pages loading quickly so i did a speed test
Check out the results.

11 MB/s down, 887 KB/s up. Not to shabby? Costs £1 for 24 hours of unlimited usage on T-mobile and a 5 Day unlimited pass is £2.50..... Nice!
I pinged google.co.uk aswell, and the maximum ping was 27 ms

Im so jealous...
Just rub it in a little bit more... My download speed at home is 130Kbps... -
Im a noob LOL, what is this for?
-
basically. i put a mobile phone simcard in with credit on, and then i can go anywhere i want and have internet. Its like wireless that you have at home, but you can go anywhere and it uses the mobile phone network.
p.s. I moved closer to the window to improve signal (live in an anscient stone cottage with 2 foot thick stone walls, blocks out the signal a bit)
p.s.
I looked in the specs in the instruction book that came with laptop (the 3G card came built in laptop, its not 3rd party) and it says that it is HSPA+ complient, which means in the future i should be able to get 40 MB/s down and 20 MB/s up.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HSPA+
p.p.s omg check this out. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/E-UTRA Cant wait for this to be more readily availible. 180 mb/s? -
Nice!...sounds great...good for you.
-
Thanks.
HP Really deserves a medal for this, all that i have read about the 3G internet e.t.c on the internet people are reporting 3 mb/s with 300 ms ping e.t.c I dont even live in a built up area and im attaining those speeds.
Thankyou HP
Theres only one thing that i dont like about this laptop and thats the GFX unit if it was dedicated itd be the perfect laptop.
Im going to write up a review some time because there isnt any on notebookreview for the 6715b yet. -
Also if I put my sim card in the slot will it cost additional money for me? Cellphone bill-wise? -
Can you do a speedtest at www.speedtest.net because i dont belive your download is that fast evdo max's out at 3mb/s and for that you would have to be standing next to the tower i bet.
-
Does this cost extra? You can get internet ANYWHERE?!? For Free?!?
-
Most pay-as-you-go plans are expensive as all hell for data. Actually, most contracted plans are also extremely expensive unless you get unlimited data (which is actually limited to 5 GB/month).
I tethered for a few week in August when I didn't have internet. It's ok for a temporary fix (better than dialup for sure), but I wouldn't be able to stay under the 5 GB cap on my phone plan. -
Well I guess I am a noob too! This is the first time I have ever heard about this...Why didn't they include this feature in the dv series? (lol or did they?)
-
They did but only for the dv4
-
Speedtest.nt doesnt work at all, i think that it uses a different port or somthing that T-mobile blocks. and when i say Credit i mean putting money onto the simcard, i just used my pay as you go sim. and yes these speeds are true, when i downloaded files they went at 1987 kb/s according to internet explorer.
-
uh 1987kb/sec is faster than my 15Mbps cable line lol that speed is not even 11Mbps are you sure is not a 2 MEG line lol
-
no 1987 kb/s transfer speed, you times that speed by 8 to get the line speed.
if your on 15 mb/s cable line then your maximum transfer speed is 1875 kb/s -- Please make sure you know what your on about befor you try to tell people they are wrong -
Coool :jelaous: XD
