I have a dv9744ca which used to play audio to the HDTV via HDMI, with Vista 32bit. I had to go to Realtek Audio Manager first and then select the Realtek Digital Output, set as default and apply, then start the app to watch video over HDMI, no probs.

Now a month back I did the clean install of Vista 32bit. Has the latest Realtek drivers and have the Realtek Audio Manager still, now when I choose the Realtek Digital Output and set as default and apply and start a video theres audio out to the TV, the video is on the TV and the audio is coming out of the laptop only still! (blank screen on laptop of course).

I've been through every setting available, but I must have missed one or something. How come when I switch from Speakers to Realtek Digital Output the speakers still work?....nothing on the TV.

I don't know how it worked before the clean install since it worked out of the box fine, I had no need to study it at all.

    Thanks for any pointers.

    -Check cable

    -Re-install an older driver.

Windows update could have accidentally installed the wrong drivers. Its happened alot of times in the past

    Thanks flipfire.
I tackled this again this weekend and still can't figure it out. Drivers reinstalled, ok, still no audio over HDMI.
    I am clueless.
I choose the Realtek digital out as I used to do before clean install of Vista 32bit and its not working. Have not used Windows update. Have got realteks drivers.
    Any tips would be appreciated.

same thing happened to me. Try this:

Unplug everything from the tv and only plug in the hdmi cable.

    Worked for me.

    Try this:

Open Control Panel → Sound icon → highlight your digital output → click "set default"

Then try your audio/video file again. You have to close and reopen the A/V file after making the change in CP.
