I have an HP Pavillion dv9000 that I recently refurbed. I removed the motherboard and had the video chipset repaired to fix the known video issue.

After reassembling the laptop and putting a clean install of Vista on a new 120GB HDD, I have no audio whatsoever. Neither the speakers nor the headphone jack produce any sound. All drivers are installed and working properly. When adjusting the volume using the buttons on the bezel, the speakers beep, so I know they work and are getting power.

All drivers and settings have been checked and show that the speakers should be working.

Found your problem. But seriously, vista is so buggy it really wouldn't surprise me if that was the problem. Try grabbing a win7 dvd.

The default device is the internal speakers and yes, the sound bar moves.

    Hmm...
Try this: (Instructions are for vista but win7 should be the same)
    1. Click Start (Pearl Button)
    2. right Click Computer >> Select Properties option.
    3. Select Device Manager from the right side top in the Properties window.
    4. After opening Device Manager locate for the sound video game controllers category.
    5. Click the '+' sign side to that category.
    6. Now you will see the Conexant/Realtek High Definition Audio. Right Click it.
    7. Select uninstall.

    8. In the Device Manager dialog box, click the Action menu, and then click Scan for hardware changes.

Tried that already. Also tried unistalling and installing with an older driver.

Found the issue, of course it was something simple. The jumper between the motherboard and headphone/mic mini-jack cluster was loose. Must not have pushed it in all the way during reassembly.
