Hey guys, I have a HP DV6500t Special Edition, but I just noticed that the area where the model number is supposed to be on the bottom of my laptop is blank. Is there any way for me to find out what it is, say, through Microsoft Vista or some software program? Thanks a lot.

Should be on the box that your laptop came in. (Packaging)

My laptop has "Product", "P/N", "S/N". I'm not sure that there is a "M/N".

You can find the product (the unparenthesis part) next to product, part number (parenthesis) after that, and serial number next to serial number in PC Wizard 2007 under mainboard > manufacturer.

Just a warning to the OP: if the next question is "why does it say dv6000t when I purchased a dv6500t", you will get slapped.

This is what you should see affixed to the bottom of the notebook...

From within Windows pressing Fn+ esc keys at the same time should display the basic system information along with the model/serial numbers. You will need to have the Quick launch buttons software installed for this to work. Alternatively this info should also be found in the BIOS menu and as suggested by kubel can also be determined by programs like PC Wizard.

If you still have the HP programs installed. You can check the full system information by opening HP Total Care Advisor > Click on the Pc Help tab on the bottom > System Information near the top left of window

or look for HPSI.exe . It will show complete info including serial, product and model #'s

If your Windows Vista is an OEM, there should be the model information at System Properties. Control panel >> Classic View >> System

Do you guys see the picture "miner" posted? I have what he has except for the model number to the right of "service tag." He has both "ze2000" and "ze2001xx" on his sticker, but I only have "dv6500," and NO number like say "dv6531xx." Anybody know why?

If it is a CTO, you won't find a specific model name. My retail DV6305US had that on the sticker, but my CTO DV6000Z didn't. Retail numbers identify a certain mass-produced version within a series. These pre-configured units are boxed up and sent to retail stores. Retail stores use that number to market and easily identify their units (like DV6305US). CTO's, since they are custom built at the factory, only fall within a model series (like DV6000), and don't use specific numbers since they aren't retail units. So you won't find a specific model number on the sticker.

Customized to order. Basically a HP notebook purchased through the HP US website customized with the specifications the user wants.

ah... thanks miner. that's the reason why i don't see any model # in the service tag area of my laptop. because its CTO?

Yeah, models sold in retail stores get a model number like dv2610us etc. while a CTO would just be a dv2600.
