Does anyone follow that deal? Does it come and go?

If I can find that deal within the next month I'll get it (dv4000) over the Inspiron 6000...

I think you mean the up to $300 saving that's for free wireless interface, free DL DVD-RW upgrade, free bright view upgrade, free shipping, and occasionally free second 6-cell battery. I don't think there was ever $300 off coupon for DV4000 like Dell. I have been watching for the deals on HP laptop since my laptop got stolen in May and finally ordered mine in the end of October. I got all (except the battery) the free offers plus $50 rebate and used a $25 off $250 purchase coupon.
Nevertheless, there was a $300 coupon for Compaq V4000T but it did not have those free offers (except free shipping). I guess they are just different pricing stratagies. Just like how Dell mark up their price and keep giving away coupons every week.

I don't think HP has the coupons quite like Dell does but if you look at the pricing typically you can get an HP of equal or better quality for less than a Dell. Dell's look really expensive but when you throw in a coupon they come out closer to what an HP is. HP and Dell just use different marketing strategies. Dell likes to throw around coupons and HP just goes ahead and charges less to begin with making it more simple in my opinion.

Yikes, sorry about your notebook getting stolen Billscho. :(

I'd say that Dell's notebooks are overpriced anyways and that the coupons make them a bit tempting. Without the coupons, I'd stay the heck away from Dells.

Back in early Dec. there was a coupon offer for the DV4000 or V4000t (500.00 off) but that was for first 175 laptops and a quick promo. I wish I've seen that before my Asus. Hp was my first choice not knowing how great the Asus was. But really, you cant go wrong with a popular lappy such as the DV4000 or Asus Z70va. After you actually get one and see it for yourself, that 50 bucks difference or more from those coupon is not worth the tension building up within you ;) :hp:

There is still a 300.00 off of V4000's, i ordered mine Dec 9th and got the discount however they took away the free upgrade to 512 Ram i got, but theres still free shipping. I got a great deal on a very nifty laptop - its a definite step up from the v2000 however it is heavier. Plus theres always the great stud disc on hp which takes off almmost another 100~
